Ela está localizada no pequeno município José Boiteux, com paisagem rural e seus 4.720 habitantes, o nome da Cachoeira do Rio Laeisz remete a história da cidade, quando ainda era uma colônia alemã, em 1897, e teve o rio nomeado Laiesz em homenagem ao conselheiro da colônia, Carl Ferdinand Laeisz, Presidente da Câmara de Comércio de Hamburgo. É importante destacar que essa trilha tem trechos rudimentares, em que será necessário segurar em raízes e escadas suspensas, não sendo recomendada ser feita com crianças, idosos e por quem tem medo de altura. .
