Helloâşď¸ how do you think sy would respond if someone were to break into the house with y/n there? I love protective sy and I have reread your series at least 7 times!!! Thanks
So.....This is all hypothetical and doesnât really happen in ETS....
But if it WERE to happen in the ETS universeâŚHere. I wrote it!
A rapping on your windowpane awakens you from a deep sleep instantly.Â
Not just a rapping, but a full-blown banging. That isnât the sound of knuckles tapping on your window. Thatâs the sound of a fist. Someone is using their entire first to bang on your window, and you quickly bolt upright with a gasp.
âOh, my God,â you mutter, and you throw back the covers and grab your phone from the nightstand. Immediately, you turn it on like the screen will tell you something about whatâs going onâit sounds like the damn police banging out there or somethingâbut all it reads is 1:14.
The noise happens again, and your eyes largen.
âOh, my God,â you repeat, and you pace across the hall to open the boysâ bedroom door. Both Daniel and Luke arenât in bed, and you look wildly around. Theyâre not in their room at all. Theyâre gone. âOh, my fucking God.â
Panic floods you while you go to Braylyn and Michaelâs room and throw open the door, and when you see the crib and toddler-bed within it both empty, too, itâs then you realizeâThatâs right. Everyone's out of town for the holidays right now. No oneâs home but you. No oneâs home but you, and someoneâs outside insistently banging on your window.Â
What the hell is going on?
In almost pitch-black darkness, you rush to the front door to make sure itâs dead-bolted shut, and then you head through the kitchen for the backdoor. The entire time, you hear a loud, insistent pounding sound from the back corner where your room is. After quickly checking the locks on every single window, you then run into the bathroom and shut the door.
Instantly, you call Sy next, and he answers on the third ring.Â
âSy,â you rush out, your voice trembling.
âWhatâs goinâ on?â he asks, rushing his words out just like you, and your voice is high-pitched when you reply.
âAre you outside right now?â
âNo,â he answers. âIâm in my bed.â
You hear another distant noise, and you jolt. âFuck,â you mutter, and then you lock the bathroom door with shaking fingers. You keep the overhead light off just because it makes you feel safer that way, and the only illumination in the tiny room is the night-light plugged in by the toilet for when the children have late-night emergencies. You sit down on the closed-lid of the toilet and slightly begin to rock your body back and forth.
âWhatâs goinâ on?â Sy repeats. âWhat dâyou mean, am I outside?â
âLike, outside my house,â you say, finishing with a whimper of distress.
âY/N, whatâs goinâ on?â he asks again.
âSomeoneâs out in the bushes by the house. Theyâre banging on my bedroom window.â
âWhat?â
âSomeoneâs outside the house,â you shakily whisper again. âSomeoneâs outside the house banginâ on my window.â
âIs it locked?â
âYeah,â you whisper. âThe whole house is.â
âStay put. Iâm leavinâ now.â
âSyââ
âIâm cominâ over. Stay on the phone.â
âItâs gonna take you, like, twenty minutes to get here,â you tell him.Â
âIâll cut it by half,â he says, and then you hear a door shut. âCall the police.â
After thatâanother sound from your bedroom.
âOh, my God,â you mumble. âThey wonât stop. What if itâs a neighbor just tryinâ to get my attention?â
âTheyâd go to the door.â
âWhat if the house is on fire?â you worry next.
âIs it on fire?â
You sniff. âNo, but what if it is?â you worry. âAnd now Iâm gonna burn to death.â
âWhere are you right now?â
âIn the bathroom.â
âGood,â he says. âStay put. Is the door locked?â
âYeah,â you whisper, and then you hear Sy make a long, low groanâa noise the mixture of both frustration and distress.
Your fingernails are in your mouth. âWhat?â
âFuckinâ red light,â he mutters. âIâm runninâ it.â
âYouâre that close to town already?â you ask, knowing if there are traffic lights that heâs well outside of where he lives.
âJust messaged my buddy, Kevin. Heâs on duty tonight. His patrol is close by, so heâll be right there âfore I get there, alright?â
Youâre extremely grateful that youâve taught Sy how to message someone and stay on an actual phone call at the same time, but still: âI donât wannaââ Letting your sentence go unfinished, you start breathing faster.
âDonât wanna what?â Sy asks.
âI donât wanna bother anyone in case this is all just a big mistake or somethinâ.â
âY/N, itâs his job.â
Just then, you hear glass breaking, and youâre so scared that your scream doesnât even make it out your throat; it gets stuck there. Your body knows to do nothing else but begin to cry.
âSy, they broke inâthey broke inâtheyââ
You stand up and get into the bathtub, and when youâre behind the shower curtain, you cower. Sy doesnât speak for a minute, but you hear his loud breathing.Â
âCâmon,â he mutters to himself. âCâmon.â
Tears run down your cheeks. âSy, Iâm so scared.â
âWeâll be right there, baby. Stay where you are.â
You hear footsteps begin walking down the hallway, and you put your hand over your mouth to muffle your sobbing. The loud sound approaches the bathroom door where it then pauses and then continues into the living room.Â
All those presents are under the Christmas treeâŚ
âTheyâre in the house now.â Your voice is lower than a whisper. âWhere are you?â
âClose. Keep breathinâ. Weâre close.â
Every second feels like it lasts an hour. Every beat of your heart feels like itâll spiral you into a panic attack. Every loud breath coming out of the hot phone in your hand is just as shaky as yours. Every sound in the house is amplified.
Thatâs why, when you hear another bangingâthis time from the front doorâyouâre able to distinguish whatâs actually going on.
Youâre not able to make out a lot after that, just âShow me your hands!â and some other shouted orders, but youâve never been happier for the sound of screaming in your life.
Youâre able to finally take a breath and let it fill your lungs, but they burn in a way you hate. Your heart is pounding against them and making everything hurt.Â
âThey got him,â you whisper. âI-I think they got him.â
âIâm pullinâ up to the house right now,â Sy tells you firmly. âDonât hang up, and donât move.â
You nod your head. âOkay.â
You listen through the phone as Sy speaks to whoever must be outside the house, and you stay cowering in complete and total darkness inside the locked bathroom. It feels like a full five minutes later when youâre actually instructed to come outside, but even though Sy tells you itâs safe, youâre scared to.
âThey wonât let me inside, Y/N,â he says. âNot yet.â
âAre you sure itâsâŚAre you sure I can come out?â
âLookinâ at the fucker right now in the back of Kevinâs car,â Sy says. âSome wimpy-lookinâ teenager.â
Sighing in relief, you slowly unlock the bathroom door and tiptoe through the hallway like danger is still lurking somewhere. You wipe the remnants of tears from your eyes while looking around the living room thatâs currently illuminated by flashing red and blue lights from outside. Presents are all over the furniture, having been rifled through and thrown around, but besides that, nothing looks too bad.Â
In mismatched, baggy pajamas and no socks or shoes, you run out to the front porch to find Sy at the bottom of the stairs with his phone to his ear. You both drop your phones at the same time in order to embrace, and you squeeze him as close as you can.
âIâm gettinâ you a security system for your new apartment,â he holds you even tighter and says. âSomeâSomethinâ with a code. A code no one can fuckinâ think of breakinâ.â
âThe apartments are a street down from the police station,â you mumble against his shirt.
âEven better,â he puts his large hand on the back of your head and replies, mashing your face into his chest. âGod, Y/Nââ
You hug one another for as long as you can until you have to speak to the actual officers, and youâre out on the lawn for so long that youâre exhausted and cold and drained by the time everythingâs over with.Â
Sy stays next to you the whole time, and when you end up having to take your anxiety medicine, he helps you pack an overnight bag for his place. In the dark and eerie early morning, you ride with Sy back to his house, and when youâre there, you fitfully try to go back to sleep in his bedroom. Youâre not very successful, but between the fire he keeps stoked and the words he keeps whispering and the tight way his body fits behind yours, youâre safe and warm again. Youâre protected.
