in tng they're like "okay lal, it's time to pick your gender and appearance. choose very carefully because they're going to have to last you for the rest of your life bc we're killing you off at the end of this episode" which obviously says something very 1990 about gender but then a few years later in ds9 they're like "hey who wants to be an entirely different species in this episode!! we got any forehead transplant you want! klingon, cardassian, bajoran, you name it!! hey quark you want some titties? we got free titty transplants right over here!!" and they're so valid for that they did not give a fuck

ah.. another thing star trek and mass effect have in common is that, although both series are unnecessarily horny, all the characters are written in such a strange and stilted and sexless way that I do not believe for a second that any of them actually have sex, let alone sexual chemistry with another character

the more star trek i watch the more i understand why mass effect is the way it is, and by "the way it is" i mean "dumb and horny"
