Im trying... To character design. Noting to myself that Travis's hoodie should be special, because Copper made it for him. (Perhaps an animal design? I am thinking a lamb, as reference to Revelation 6:16 The Wrath Of The Lamb. Also as a reference to Lambs often being depicted as God's sacrifices)

travis feels like a moth getting dangerously close to an open flame. the warmth of magnolia reminds him of something that he shouldn't be nostalgic for ; something that he's never had, but has secretly always wanted. that, in and of itself, was a scary thought. there was a part of him that knew he would be better off if he left now, returned to his standoffish, and at times harsh, demeanor so that there was no chance of him or anyone else getting hurt by whatever it was he was feeling. the other part of him begins to realize it might be too late to run, this time. this realization - one that starts very small in his chest - seems to twist his insides. it doesn't hurt, but he doesn't think it feels good, either. it feels new. unknown. hands wraps around his mug, collecting the warmth of the coffee into his palms, trying to distract himself from his thoughts, only for his efforts to be thwarted when magnolia stands and walks to grab something he can only assume is important to her. nothing of value or sentiment should be shown to travis - he doesn't deserve it. but she sets down the notebook, and as tired eyes raise to meet hers, for a moment, he finds himself wanting to look at it.
there is still hesitation, a long pause before travis slowly reaches forward to grasp the journel, glancing back up at mags as if to check to see if she really wanted him looking at this. when she doesn't reach foward to snatch it away, the sheriff clears his throat and opens the cover to glance through the pages of notes and small drawings of different birds. ' you've been doin' this a long time, ' it's not a question - travis can tell magnolia has put a lot of hours and effort into educating herself about the things she's passionate about. it's impressive. more than that, he feels enamored by it. which is why he turns another page and swiftly shuts the cover, clearing his throat once more before placing the notebook back on the table between them, giving his attention back to the coffee left in his cup. ' found any around here that you haven't seen before? ' conversation is hard for him, but travis feels as if he owes it to her, after she's showed him something so personal.
