Another thing that feels embarrassing to say, that I said today in therapy anyway, was like, “I think it’s reasonable, given certain events in my life, that I’m traumatized in general.” Like, it’s not that I doubt that I am traumatized, it just feels so... over the top to say it in a way that’s not joking about it at the same time, in a face-to-face conversation with another human person. I was like, “It feels like I’m just being dramatic, to say that I’m traumatized. Like, oh, who do you think you are? Like I can’t be the one who gets to determine if I’m traumatized. I can accept it when other people say it, because then I feel less like I’m just being presumptuous.” And my therapist was like, “It almost feels insulting that this is kind of just the nature of complex trauma, that you doubt yourself so much despite being all too aware of the reality of your life.”
I wonder what I’d be like if I was a person.
