I remember when I was on the therian side of tumblr in the mid 2010s and some guy sent me an anon sent me an anon and was like “if your an animal you shouldn’t be in school lol” and little did he know my neurodivergent ass was going to be like “yeah no I agree I’m actively being traumatised by being forced into a mainstream school environment where my needs are actually being denied on a daily basis.” Then he was like “that’s not how trauma works you just want to be different so you should be made to go to school and be treated just like everyone else.”
It’s funny how people’s opinion changes just to fit a narrative.
so what i don't understand about usamerican schools is that while we are constantly dealing with school shootings and murders and assault and overdoses and kidnapping we are also taking away phones.
I don't know about you, but being a kid downtown in a big city with a crime issue, the most comforting thing is not going to be not being on my phone in an emergency. nor is it the safest thing. Being in a city where we wont be told if its a drill or if there is a person with a gun, i want to be able to text my family.
I don't know about you, but in a city with a drug and overdose problem, i want to be able to call 911. I want to be able to keep a person safe when i can. i want to be able to call a persons family, to call EMS, to call anyone for someone.
I don't know about you, but if my phone is taken away and a teacher pulls me into his classroom to "talk"i want to be able to be able to record. to call. to do anything.
I don't know about you, but i want to be able to call for help. to be tracked by my family. to do anything in a world where i will not be helped by the people around me.
I don't understand why i would not be able to have my phone. I know they are a "distraction" for so many reasons, but complete bans cannot be the only option. nor can taking them away.
This is why I believe I’m ADHD and ASD. In school, I hated the constant routine!! I felt trapped every day like I was in a prison and yet…. I get up at the same time every morning, accept on weekends, I drink the same coffee with honey and eat the same breakfast. lol I’m predictable but I need constant change too. I get so bored!!
