Transustainable House: Fresh Shape For The Urban Landscape
Half translucent, half rusting iron, this unusual split-gabled residence in Tokyo offers an evolving area that can change with the residents’ needs and whims. Clear-roofed transitional spaces give the feeling of becoming outdoors even though preserving a sense of privacy in the urban surroundings.
The residence will take up practically the whole allotment of land, stretching upwards and enclosing outdoor spaces to make the most of the modest footprint. The envelope consists of powdered iron mixed with plaster, made to change above time with publicity to the aspects.
Performing so will take control of the home’s exterior visual appeal away from the architects, explains the firm Sugawaradaisuke, putting it into the hands of the local climate. Inside, indoor residing spaces are staggered with the open ‘semi-indoor’ locations for an open and spacious feel.
This offsets the rooms diagonally from every other, with voids producing gravel-floored courtyards. The combine of spaces also permits the residents to choose among temperatures that are artificially controlled or natural, in accordance to how pleasant the weather is.
