TIGER EGOCIEVE / EGOTIGER : a term for when you consider yourself the ‘tiger person’ in a way that is central to your identity. this can include but is not limited to: wanting to be perceived as the most knowledgeable or attached to tigers and wanting others to think about you when they see tigers

In the wake of the death’s of Sam Dubose and Sandra Bland (as well as a few other POC) it has been abundantly clear to me that opinions regarding the matters are extremely polarized. On one hand, there are large groups of people who are outraged by the deaths at the hands of two Law Enforcement Officer and on the other, there are people who continuously make excuses for violent cops. 

Honestly, it’s perplexing.  

In one instance there is video showing the cop discharging his gun and killing a man in cold bold. After the incident he lied on the police report and had another officer corroborate his story. Again, this was all on video. There is no question of what happened because we all witnessed it. Yet, there are people making excuses for this murderer. 

“Dubose should have just given him his license.”

“He should have just complied with the officer.”

“He shouldn’t have had the plate on his car.”

Since when do any of those things warrant a death sentence? When is it ever acceptable to take a human life because they didn’t have their license on them? Have some of you lost your collective damn minds? 

However, we have people on national t.v. choking back tears over a lion. Grant it as an animal lover I’m saddened by the inhumane death of Cecil The Lion. But why does his death garner more tears than the lives of other human beings? Why are more people outraged over a death of an animal than a human? People are DEMANDING justice for Cecil– even making threats to his killer’s dental practice. They are marching and protesting on behalf of a Lion thousands of miles away on another continent, but condemn black men and women for protesting against the inhumane treatment of Rekia Boyd, Sandra Bland, Mike Brown, Tamir Rice, John Crawford III, Eric Garner, Walter Scott, Freddie Gray and so many more. Regardless of what prejudice you may have against Mike and Eric, they were brutally killed by the police and one was left on the streets to fester in the hot summer sun for hours. Where is the outrage for that? 

Police officers are not the law. They are sworn to uphold it and protect the law. They also have a duty to American citizens in which they violated when they unlawfully killed these people or arrested them. Where is your vitriol for that? Or is that only reserved for endangered wildlife an ocean away? There are people dying in your front yard. But rather than seeing the humanity in their deaths, you rather see the humanity in animal’s death.
