What is Translator Google?
Translator Google is a free web-based translation service offered by Google. It is a tool used to to translate a text, paper or website into another language. It was first introduced in April 28, 2006 for the Arabic language translation. In October 2007, other languages like Chinese and Russian were also made accessible. Translator Google used a SYSTRAN based translator which is also used by other translation services like Babel Fish and AOL.
Like any other automatic translation tools, Translator Google also has its limitations. Even though it can aid the user in knowing the general context of a foreign language, it does not necessarily deliver right translations. With all language translations offered by Translator Google, French to English translation is one which is the most accurate. The tool also limits the number of paragraphs and the range of technical terms that can be translated.
Despite that, Translator Google also have some innovative things like for foreign languages, users are asked for alternate translations to be included for future updates. Not only that, articles in a foreign language can be typed, and if you have no idea what language it is you can pick the "Detect Language" option and translate it into English by default.
Moreover, there are a number of Firefox extensions created for Translator Google. Same is true for Google Chrome browser. In February 2010, Translator Google was incorporated into the standard Google Chrome browser for auto page translation. In August 2008, Google also made Translator Google handy for iPhone users. However, the official Translator Google iPhone app was released last February 8, 2011. It supports voice input for 15 languages and translates a word or phrase in up to 50 languages.
Since Translator Google uses statistical matching instead of using a dictionary or a grammatical approach when translating, the translated text most of the time became incorrect and nonsensical.
