ค่ายมือถือ NTT DoCoMo แห่งญี่ปุ่นออกแอปฯแปลภาษาด้วยเสียงพูดแบบเรียลไทม์บนมือถือ โดยสามารถเข้าใจภาษาญี่ปุ่นและแปลงออกมาเป็นตัวอักษรได้อย่างแม่นยำถึง 90% ส่วนภาษาอังกฤษ 80% คาดว่าจะเปิดตัวแอปฯปลายไตรมาส 1 ปีหน้า
ที่งาน CEATEC Japan 2011 ค่ายมือถือ NTT DoCoMo จากญี่ปุ่นได้ออกแอปฯแปลเมนูอาหาร โดยสามารถแปลชื่อเมนูอาหารภาษาญี่ปุ่นเป็นภาษาอังกฤษได้แบบเรียลไทม์โดยไม่ต้องกดปุ่มหรือรออะไรอีก แค่เปิดแอปฯ เอากล้องมือถือส่อง ที่ชื่อเมนูอาหารก็จะเห็นตัวอักษรภาษาอังกฤษลอยขึ้นมาทันที
และนอกจากแปลญี่ปุ่นเป็นอังกฤษแล้ว ยังสามารถแปลภาษาจีน (ทั้งตัวเต็ม ตัวย่อ) เกาหลี และอังกฤษ เป็นภาษาญี่ปุ่นอีกด้วย

แอปฯแปลภาษาด้วยการถ่ายภาพบนแอนดรอยด์ที่เพิ่งออกใหม่วันนี้คือ " CamTranslator" จะเน้นการแปลภาษาเป็นรายคำ โดยภาษาที่แปลได้มีประมาณ 50 ภาษา ได้แก่ อังกฤษ ฝรั่งเศส สเปน เยรมัน เกาหลี รัสเซีย ฯลฯ
วิธีใช้งาน คือ การเลือกคู่ภาษาที่ต้องการแปล จากนั้นการส่องกล้อง และให้เป้าสีแดงไปเล็งยังคำต่างๆ ที่ต้องการแปล ก็จะเห็นคำแปลแบบเรียลไทม์ทันที ทั้งยังดูคำอธิบายเพิ่ม และส่งต่อผ่านบลูทูธ, SMS, หรือช่องทางอื่นๆ ได้
