Badlands, South Dakota 

I am simultaneously laughing and crying. Day four of no cigarettes. Jordan has to pull over to poop every hour. The prairie dogs have the plague. Every time we pull into a national park it’s sunset and I barely have time to get a good picture in. The farther east I get the level of humidity and number of bugs increases. I can’t think straight. 

The road is great and free. I hope it never ends.

It’s difficult being okay with not getting a “great shot!” of every inspiring article of my life. I’ve always got a camera in my hand and I get lost in the screen sometimes. I’m noting that being forced to pull away from it is where some real stuff might also live. It’s said that in today’s world of constant snap and upload, the things we don’t photograph give those moments more meaning. This is especially hard to practice when I’m trying to freeze moments of this adventure to share them with you. 

My goal going forward would be to find other ways to capture the essence of travel. The feeling of being blasted in the eyeballs with mammoth red rocks, questioning if you’re still on Earth. I’ll be exploring new mediums, which I often do, just not as confidently. I think a main idea of this collective is trying new things in ourselves and the world outside. Throwing things out there to see what sticks.
