Tips for healthcare for providers when treating transgender people
Sunday, April 18th is National Transgender HIV Testing Day
National Transgender HIV Testing Day is a day to increase awareness of HIV status among all transgender and gender-nonconforming people. Getting tested and knowing your HIV status is especially important for transgender and gender-nonconforming, nonbinary individuals who are at a higher risk of HIV exposure.
This National Transgender HIV Testing Day, we want to remind all transgender and gender-nonconforming, nonbinary New Yorkers that regular HIV testing is key to knowing your HIV status and taking steps to stay healthy. Learn more about how you can #beHIVsure and #PlaySure! Remember, to help stay healthy:
Find a health care provider you trust and get gender-affirming medical care. Need a new provider? Check out these New York City Sexual Health Clinics that work with transgender adults and youth. Curious about how to get gender-affirming medical care? Check out these resources for transgender and gender nonconforming people.
Get Tested: Call 311, visit 311 online, or text TESTNYC to 877877 to find local testing sites. Outside of NYC? Here’s the HIV.gov testing locator.
Get Treated: If you are living with HIV, text CARE to 877877 for help finding HIV care or support services in NYC.
Stay Safe: Did you know there are medications available to help prevent HIV? Visit our PrEP and PEP page to get more info.
