wait what's wrong with taako being blue??? I'm not a Taz fan but I am a mbmbam fan and I don't wanna be out of the loop lol
Oh gosh okay so there’s quite a bit of issues but I’ll keep it to bullet point’s and you can always feel free to listen to what other POC and Jewish people have to say about it!! but here it goes
1) Taako’s current design is pretty antisemitic, this has to do with many factors but to name a few his skin color paired with his nose and his gold habits it’s all kinda... not great....
2) The mcelroys wanted to avoid making him white because his name is a Tex-Mex food ref, BUT they also didn’t want to make him Latine for the same reason, so blue taako is a symbol of them not only NOT listening to fans of color and ask them what they think about the situation, but instead let their white guilt make the choice for them, or i guess lack of a choice and just made him blue because it was an easy way to avoid the problem
3) he SHOULD be Mexican/Latine/Mex-Am. No I’m not just saying this as a Mex-Am person who adores Taako and Lup, but as just a person with critical thinking skills fjjfff. He would in NO way be a mexican stereotype, the only issue is his name and even then it’s not? why? Nicknames are a big thing in Mexican and other Latine cultures! We call each other things from Pulga, Mosca, Brownie, Manzanita, Guayaba, etc etc. So him and Lup being Mexican would actually work wonderfully! Not only would they be FANTASTIC representation but it’s easy to just say Taako and Lup are nicknames they go by! Easy! Also to have them be anything other than Latine feels soooo wrong. I don’t have the proper words to properly express why but it just doesn’t feel right to have these characters be white... just... no
( I think it could have something to do with a white person having a taco be a symbol of their connection to others is ehh, but a mexican person having a food specific to their culture be a connection to their relationship with others is much more realistic and beautiful,, like my culture is a big part of how i experience the world and my relationships so like certain foods hold a big significance to my life, so it makes total sense to me that Taakos whole journey of searching for those bonds through a food specific to his culture?? NOW THAT, that hits hard. ((There is nothing that reminds me of my love for my family more than the homemade tortillas my grandma used to make me and my little sisters as children, because we were so poor we would only be able to eat them with a little bit of salt, but it’s one of my fondest memories and it is greatly connected to a specific meal specific to poor Latine families)) )
4) Me and other Latine taz fans agree, to have Taako NOT be Mexican is much worse than him actually being Mexican, and the people who do seem to have an issue with Mexican Taako are all white from what I’ve seen....
5) I’m projecting and would love to have a badass char like Taako be Mex-Am like me and the people in my life <3
