Sometimes I really hate the show for not allowing cn to be angry with lb and he has a lot of reason to be angry and upset at her too! It's also the same with most of fic I read, people let lb get angry at cn but do not let cn get angry at her even though it's justified. Whenever he's angry at her she would yelled back at him and he's quick to yield or that he still simp her even though she had hurt him. It's in character because that's his trauma response but I hope I can read a fic where cn can and allowed to be angry and instead of lb yelled back at him and getting defensive she would listen to him or you know, let him admitted that she hurt him and questioned if pursuing her or be her "partner" is still worth it. If you know a fic with similar premise like that, please let me now. Thanks!
I do see what you're getting at here, since there are times when I've been frustrated at Marinette, and when Chat Noir could justifiably be upset at her (Season 4 has a few examples), but where he didn't really get to have an in-depth talk with her to resolve these issues, not ones where it felt like he really got to work out the problems he had, anyway. I've mostly settled for Ladybug making more of an effort to include Chat Noir, to not hide secrets from him anymore that aren't strictly necessary, NOW at least. She never wanted to hurt him like that, she cares about him a lot, she just didn't think about how that might hurt him.
There are fics where Chat Noir gets upset at Ladybug and is allowed to be angry, with Ladybug listening to his concerns and changing her approach, especially during season 4. They aren't very common at all though, not when compared to the whole Chameleon saltfic trends, anyway. There are also ones that go beyond that and into full bashing, making Marinette into a stalker as a civilian and into someone who just, didn't care for or respect Chat Noir in the slightest and treated him badly as Ladybug, but that trends towards the same sort of Ron the Death Eater that I abhor in the regular saltdom, so I stay out of those stories once I realize where they're going. I noped out of a story fairly recently, actually, when I realized during chapter 2 that it was gonna demonize Marinette, treat her negatively in a way I found unfair.
Again, though, keep in mind that those are rare, and generally are not very popular on the infrequent occasions when they do pop up, they don't make up multiple sub-fandoms like the Saltinette sphere does.
As far as fics where Chat Noir is allowed to be justifiably angry with Ladybug for something she did, and Ladybug recognizes that, apologizes, and changes her approach, I actually wrote a fic I think you might like. I was pretty unhappy with how Ladybug lied to Chat Noir and manipulated him in Ephemeral, with her "lie to him about wanting a full Reveal, use that opportunity to have a third party secretly listen to find out Chat's identity, rewind time so Chat never knew anything had happened, and have that third part tell Su-Han Chat's secret identity, circumventing the need for Chat's knowledge or consent in any of this" plan, especially since it never got brought up later. So I decided to write a fic to help me process that, being fair to Marinette and keeping in mind her feelings and view on the situation, while also letting Adrien feel hurt and to lay down some boundaries, but WITHOUT him ever trying to hurt her or be nasty towards her - Adrien and Marinette are still the same loving, heroic, kind, but also realistically flawed people they always are, even if I'm upset at Marinette here.
Anyway, the fic is called "Transcient", I'm pretty proud of it!
Everything was fine now, right? Sheâd assured him that she wasnât mad about Su-Han knowing his identity, and he sounded like he was feeling better. Sheâd fixed the problem.
So why wasnât the lump in her throat disappearing?
------------------------------
Chat's worried about how Su-Han managed to learn his identity. Marinette re-examines her "Obtain Chat Noir's identity" plan.
I'll give you a sample as well, so you have an idea what sort of story this is.
âYou screwed up,â Alya told her bluntly.
Marinette groaned.Â
Her friend pinched her nose, giving out a long sigh. âGirl, just⊠just walk me through your thought process here. Please. Why did you think it was a good idea to try to lie and trick your partner into giving up his identity to someone else without him even knowing about it?â
âI mean, I am planning on revealing my identity to him later, so⊠is it really a lie?â she asked weakly.
Alya glared at her. âAt the time you said it you werenât planning on following through, so yes, that was a lie .â
She looked down, biting her lip. âBut if I didnât, Su-Han was going to take Chatâs Miraculous. I- I canât lose him, Alya.â Her voice cracked. âI already did once, back in New York, and I- I donât want to go on being Ladybug without him.â
Alyaâs expression softened, but her voice maintained a hard edge. âI get that, but why not just tell Chat about Su-Hanâs ultimatum, work it out together? Heâs your partner and this is about him, he should have a say on what to do with his own secret identity.â
âBut what if he refused?â Marinette asked urgently. âLast time he met Su-Han, he was so upset about the Celestial Guardianâs insistence that I stop being Guardian - that I lose my memories - that he dared him to try and take his Miraculous. We ended up having a pretty tough fight, one that Iâd rather not repeat. He said at the time that heâd give up his Miraculous if I asked, but⊠well⊠I donât know whether that would extend to telling Su-Han his secret identity.â

Marinette smiled as she looked at the picture of Adrien that popped up on her phone. A couple weeks ago, she couldnât imagine talking with him on a regular basis like this, without tripping over her words - sheâd certainly tried often enough!
But then came the reveal. Admittedly, it hadnât gone the way sheâd planned - if it had, she wouldnât have kept the knowledge of Chatâs true identity - but she didnât regret making that change.Â
Itâd been hard to wrap her brain around the two boys she cared for the most, being the same person- at least at first. But the more she watched Adrien, the more she looked at Chat, the more she saw the similarities.
No. That they were one and the same.
She wasnât ready to reveal herself - not yet. Sheâd taken awhile to adjust, to reconcile the two sides of him into one - would he? And would he still love her when he did?
She shook her head, attempting to clear it. That could wait for another day. Moving her phone up to her ear, she pressed âanswer callâ.
âLadybug?â her partner asked, his voice trembling and small. Immediately she kicked into high alert.Â
âChat, what is it?â she asked urgently, her mind buzzing with possibilities. What if Shadowmoth had tracked Adrien down, or Lilaâd talked Gabriel into pulling Adrien out of school and he needed someone to talk his father into letting him back in, or an akuma brought his banana suit to life and-
âSomeone- someone found out my identity,â he divulged quickly, as if by getting it out faster, he could soften the impact. âThat Celestial Guardian guy from before, remember? He- he was waiting for me in my room today, yelling at me about how I needed to keep Plagg in line more, keep track of his movements, control him - and that if I ever stepped out of line or wasnât needed anymore, that heâd take the Black Cat ring away. That Plagg should never have been let out of the box to begin with. I argued with him, told him that he was wrong, that Plaggâs his own person and I didnât care that he was the Celestial Guardian, he doesnât get to dictate what happens to him or isolate him from the world. I donât think he liked that much, but he left.â
He took a gulp of air, letting it out slowly in a quiet sigh. âIâm- Iâm sorry, milady. That I screwed up and let another person find out my identity somehow. I- I donât even know how he did it. When I asked how he found me, he just said âHe has his waysâ. If he could find out, someone else might too.â
There was a pause. She could almost picture Adrien screwing up his eyes as he forced out his next words. âIf- if you donât want to have a full reveal now- I understand. Iâm a security risk, and I donât even know how.â
A rock dropped into Marinetteâs throat. She swallowed it back. âItâs fine, kitty,â she told him soothingly. âIâm sure it wasnât your fault.â I know it wasnât your fault. âI donât think him knowing makes anyone else finding out more likely. He discovered my identity too, remember?â
âYe-yeah,â he said haltingly. She could hear heavy breathing over the line. âYeah, youâre right. Sorry I bothered you.â
She hesitated. âIf- if you want to talk- you know Iâm always here, right?â
âOf course. Good night, Milady.â
âSee you for patrol tomorrow!â She hung up.
Everything was fine now, right? Sheâd assured him that she wasnât mad about Su-Han knowing his identity, and he sounded like he was feeling better. Sheâd fixed the problem.
So why wasnât the lump in her throat disappearing?
Maybe working on some of her fashion designs would help. She had this great idea for an outfit for Adrien (inspired by his appearance as Chat Noir, of course) that she wanted to present him when she finally felt up to revealing her own identity.
Pulling out some cloth, her sewing machine, and scissors, she got to work.

-------
Marinette stretched out on her balcony chair, looking at the moon. Itâd be nice if she could stargaze as well, but with all the light pollution in Paris, that just wasnât possible.Â
Hm⊠maybe she should suggest spending some time on the moon, just her and Chat, the only two living beings there, gazing at the stars-
Wait, what was that?
Narrowing her eyes, she zeroed in on the movement. Immediately, she relaxed. Just Chat Noir, not an akuma.
âYou donât have patrol today,â Tikki said, sounding worried. âWhyâs he out now?â
She shrugged. âHeâs a cat, what do you expect? Cats like to wander.â
âHeâs also Adrien,â Tikki reminded her.
That brought her up short. Chat Noir she could easily dismiss roaming around aimlessly at night. But Adrien? Not so much.
Maybe she wasnât doing as good of a job reconciling his sides as sheâd thought.
She frowned. âI hadnât really thought of it that way,â she admitted. âAdrien- if heâs wandering around alone- maybe itâs just for fun? To clear his head? Or just to get away from being stuck in his room? Yeah. Yeah, that must be it. His fatherâs just being a jerk again, and he needs to get out.â
Tikki frowned at her. She looked away. Those were perfectly good reasons why he might be out. No need to speculate further.
Oh crap.
He was heading STRAIGHT FOR HER.
Keep it cool, Marinette, keep it cool. He doesnât know youâre Ladybug OR that you know his identity OR that you have a crush on him OR that he actually has a crush on her. Both of you are just two friends who occasionally run into each other to confess love problems-
OH CRAP THEYâD TALKED ABOUT LOVE PROBLEMS.
SHEâD PRACTICED HER CONFESSION TO ADRIEN ON ADRIEN.
AND HEâD DONE IT BETTER THAN SHE DID.
Okay, scratch the identity reveal idea, she was going to change her name and move to Paraguay. Alya could be Scarabella, sheâd done a fine job of it before. Su-Han could have the Miracle Box back, sheâd just have to convince him not to try and take Alyaâs or Adrienâs Miraculous when she did. Sure sheâd lose a few memories, but- actually, scratch that, that was a BONUS, as far as she was concerned.
*whump*
Marinette jumped as Chat landed beside her.Â
âSorry! Didnât mean to startle you,â he said, rubbing the back of his neck. âI just saw your light was on and wellâŠâ
âFine! Itâs fine!â she said. Even to herself, her voice sounded high-pitched and strained. Donât think about the last time they talked like this, with practicing the confessions and-
OH GOD THEY WENT ON A DATE TOO.
Her eye twitched. The universe was mocking her, she was sure of it.
âUh⊠Marinette⊠you okay?â
âYep!â It came out more as a half-strangled warble.
âDoes it have to do with Buttercup?â he asked sympathetically. âYou know, if you need to talk-â
âWhy donât we just talk about your problems instead?â she blurted out hastily.
He blinked. âHowâd you know I was having problems?â
âWell I mean- you donât normally just leap around the city at night when youâre not on patrol, right?â She didnât think so at least. Alya wouldâve gotten footage of that. âAnd itâs a school night, youâve gotta have homework to do. But youâre out here instead.â
That was another thing she hadnât really thought about before. Chat Noir being just a normal kid who needed time to do homework, just like her. She just- she thought of him as her superhero partner, her reliable, sometimes goofy, friend.
His ears drooped. She resisted the urge to stroke his head. Sheâd done it a few times as Ladybug, but he didnât know Marinette as well- or at least, he didnât KNOW he knew her as well.
Sometimes she wished she had gone through with resetting the timeline, just so she wouldnât have to deal with the headache of these secret identity shenanigans.
âSomething- something happened today. Something I hadnât expected.â
âOh?â that rock settled in her throat again. âSomeone soured your milk?â she joked half-heartedly.
He gave a small chuckle. âNah. My kwami wouldâve been all over that, probably wouldâve found some way to turn it into the stinkiest cheese known to man.â He sighed. âNo, it- it was my fault. I think. Someone learned my secret identity, and I donât even know how. If Shadowmoth finds out-â he trailed off, shaking his head.
âHave you told Ladybug about this?â she asked.Â
He nodded. âShe wasnât angry with me, thankfully. She didnât seem to think it was much of a problem at all. I mean, the guy who found out has a way of warding off akuma, so itâs probably safe, but⊠I justâŠâ
He sat down heavily. âIt just feels wrong, you know? To have that choice stripped away.â
âChoice stripped away?â
âI- I donât get to choose a lot of things in my life,â he said, looking out into the distance. âAnd if I try to stand up for what I want, what I believe, I could lose everything I have. And in cases where he knows I wouldnât agree, he just⊠circumvents my ability to choose completely. Lies to me, tricks me into doing what he wants, and I donât even find out about it until later.â
It hadnât escaped her notice that Chat had switched from vaguely talking about his life, to focusing on a specific âheâ who seemed to be the main cause of his difficulty.Â
Before the identity reveal, she wouldâve been clueless about who could possibly have him so⊠so trapped. But knowing he was Adrien⊠he had to be referring to his father. To his repeated threats to pull him from school if he ever put a toe out of line, to forbid him from seeing his friends.
Lying and tricking Adrien, because Gabriel knew his son wouldnât agree if he knew what he was actually doing⊠he had to be talking about that ad for Project Oxygen, the tower the class had protested against. Adrien had mentioned heâd thought heâd been acting for a perfume ad. It mustâve bothered him a lot, being used and deceived like that.
The stone in her throat got heavier.
âI- Iâm okay with some people knowing my identity,â he continued. âI was ecstatic when-â he paused. âNever mind. Sorry, that- thatâs something I canât tell you.â
She nodded understandingly. âYouâre a superhero, you have to keep secrets, I get it.â
âYeah⊠a lot of secrets...â he trailed off.
A moment later, he shook himself. âItâs just- itâs my own identity. Shouldnât I at least be told how he found out, for safetyâs sake? In case Shadowmoth can exploit it too? Donât I have the right to know?â He let out a frustrated sigh. âSometimes it just feels like thereâs a whole conspiracy going on, where everyone knows more than me, and Iâm just out here on the edges, finding whatever scraps of evidence they werenât able to hide.â
Marinette frowned. âWhat?âÂ
âItâs something I started noticing a couple months back,â he explained. âSome superheroes showing up more than they should, me being excluded from plans, and- and I found out that some things I thought were rules, arenât. I thought things were getting better, that a lot of it was resolved, wasnât relevant anymore, but this- this guy finding out my identity- it feels the same as those other times.â
What was he talking about? âThose other timesâ- just discovering that sheâd told her identity to someone besides him? Heâd seemed alright after their chat about it though. Or- or had he found out about Rena Furtive? He hadnât found out about the plan sheâd devised to get his identity to Su Han, that much was clear at least. Was there anything else sheâd kept secret from him she was forgetting?
She swallowed thickly. Maybe he wasnât wrong about the conspiracy thing.
âHave you tried talking to Ladybug about this?â she asked. âSheâs your partner, Iâm sure sheâd be happy to clear up any misunderstandings.â
He shook his head. âI donât want to give her any more reason to not tell me things,â he said dully. âIf I start telling her the things I suspect, how I feel, she might not want me around anymore. Iâve learned from experience. Pushing someone you care about to tell you about things they donât want to explain, just leads to them cutting you off at best, or punishment at worst. I canât lose Ladybug.â
She barely registered moving to him before she suddenly found herself inches from his face. âListen to me,â she told him harshly. âLadybug is your partner, sheâd never want to do this without you. Sheâd do everything in her power to make sure she never lost you. Sheâs certainly not going to ask you to leave. Thatâs the last thing sheâd ever want.â
She had done everything in her power to make sure Chat Noir wasnât taken from her. Even told Su Han his secret identity so he wouldnât try to take Chatâs ring. That was proof, right?
So why did that thought make her feel worse?
âYeah. Yeah, youâre probably right,â he said, his voice a little warmer. âThe time I gave up the ring, she said that too.â he turned to her, smiling. âThanks, Marinette. You always know what to say.â
âI- youâre welcome?â she said questioningly.
He laughed. âWell, this kitty needs a catnap before school tomorrow,â he said, stretching. âAnd Iâm betting you could use one too.â
She glanced at her phone. Her mouth gaped open. âOh CRAP thatâs the time?!â
He looked at her phone, wincing. âYeah Iâm just gonna go before I fall asleep in class tomorrow. See ya around!â
She waved him off before heading down the hatch.
For the next few hours she tossed and turned, the lump in her throat only growing heavier. She didnât get a lot of sleep that night.
--------
âUgh....â
Alya frowned at her as she trudged into class. âDid you stay up all night?â
Marinette collapsed into her seat, narrowly avoiding hitting her head on her desk. âNot on purpose.â
âStress getting to you? Nightmares?â Alya asked sympathetically.Â
Marinette gave her a small smile. âThe first one, I think. But⊠I just canât figure out WHY. Everythingâs fine! Right?â She looked at Alya pleadingly.
âAre you trying to convince me, or yourself?â
She groaned. âI donât even know anymore.â
Alya leaned in close. âIs it related to you-know-what?â she whispered.
Marinette paused. She hadnât been able to tell Alya why she was acting so weird around Adrien - that would require telling her Chatâs secret identity. But THIS conundrum, the stuff about Chat feeling down and left out- she didnât need to tell her his identity to relay all of that. And she needed to talk to someone about this. She couldnât go sleepless for another night. Paris needed a refreshed, non-sleep-deprived Ladybug.
âMeet me in my room after school,â she told her friend. âI need your advice.â
-------
âYou screwed up,â Alya told her bluntly.
Alya glared at her. âAt the time you said it you werenât planning on following through, so yes, that was a lie.â
Alya frowned. âAre you that confident you couldnât take him in a fight, even with the entire team?â
âWell⊠no, Iâm pretty sure we could, he was good but not THAT good,â she admitted.Â
âThen why were you so hung up about needing to get Chatâs identity to the guy, no matter what?â Alya asked, exasperated.
âI mean, I still donât want to fight him, especially since he knows where I live.â
âAnd now he knows where Chat lives.â
Marinette winced.
Alya sighed. âLook. Just⊠think about this the other way around. What if Chat had done something like this? If heâd been told he needed to tell someone else your identity or else theyâd try to confiscate your miraculous, so he decided to lie to you in order to get it - I dunno, maybe he told you he just wanted the two of you to test out the limits of your powers, with both of you then detransforming in designated spots, with someone of his choosing watching you so they could learn your identity and tell it to that person. How would you feel?â
âHOW. COULD. YOU,â she screamed at Chat, tears filling her eyes. âI- I TRUSTED you! And you- and you-!â
âI- I had to,â he pleaded, looking up at her, ears drooping. âI was going to lose you!â
âAND YOU DIDNâT THINK TO TALK TO ME ABOUT IT?! TO COME UP WITH A PLAN, TOGETHER?!â
âMy Lady-â he reached out a hand to her. She threw him into a wall. âDONâT âMY LADYâ ME. I am NOT your Lady, and wonât be ever again. I need a partner I can trust, and I CANâT TRUST YOU.â
She could still hear him crying as she walked away. She didnât look back.
â-nette. Marinette!â
A blurry shape started coming into focus. She blinked, wiping away the tears from her eyes. Slowly, the blob resolved into Alyaâs worried face.
âI- I donât know that I wouldâve been able to forgive him,â she whispered. âWhat- what do I do? How can I fix this?â
âWell, you can start by telling him everything,â Alya told her, relaxing slightly. âWhen we fought together while he was out of town, he sounded really bitter about not knowing that you were going to send a replacement. He said âLadybug sent a stand-in, and didnât see fit to tell me about itâ and âas usual, no need to keep the cat in the loopâ. I know you talked to him after that battle, but there are still a lot of things youâre hiding from him, and from the sound of it, he realizes it.â
âBut what if- what if itâs too much? What if heâs so mad he doesnât want to be my partner anymore, or we canât fight as well together, or- or-â
He was Adrien, too. If she told him everything- if she followed through on her promise to reveal her secret identity to him, a promise she hadnât intended to keep when she first made it- she might not only lose her partner, but the love of her life as well.
Her eyes ventured to the Miracle Box.Â
âMarinetteâŠâ Alya said warningly.
âWouldnât it be better to just not make the mistake in the first place?â Marinette asked, eyes locked on the box. âTo get around it entirely?â
Alya stepped in front of the box. âMarinette, NO.â
âBut-â
âLook. Maybe itâll go wrong. Maybe youâll fight. But that doesnât mean you have the right to undo it, just because things donât go the way you want!â
âEven if it means the end of the world?â
Alya blinked. âWhat?â
Marinette looked down. âA few months ago, Bunnyx showed me an alternate timeline. Paris was underwater, and everyone was dead - except for an akumatized Chat Noir. He- he knew my identity, he talked about how our love did that to the world.â She swallowed thickly. âI- I managed to defeat him, to purify him, but I needed to completely undo that timeline. All it took for the end of the world was dropping off a signed present for Adrien as Ladybug. That was it! If something that innocuous could do it⊠I just⊠I didnât know what Chat knowing some other piece of information might do. Thatâs why Iâve been so insistent on not letting him know anything beyond what he needs to - who knows what could cause it?!â
Alya stared at her. âAnd thatâs why you didnât want him to know about me knowing your identity, or having a Miraculous permanently, or following you guys on patrol and during fights as Rena Furtive, or any of this mess?â
She nodded.
Alya let out a long, slow breath. âMarinette, that doesnât make sense.â
She blinked. âWhat do you mean?â
âYou were going to reveal your identity to him before Su-Han barged into Chatâs home, right? Wouldnât that reveal have been the most likely thing to trigger Chatâs akumatization, from what you said?â
âWell⊠yeah⊠I guess so,â she admitted.Â
âThen why was him finding out about Rena Furtive higher on your list of worries?â
âIâŠâÂ
Alya had a point. Sheâd been so worried about what tiny change could cause things to go wrong, that sheâd been controlling all the information, keeping all the secrets that Chat wasnât technically required to know, but as soon as sheâd found out Chatâs identity, those worries had gone out the window.
Because he was Adrien.Â
Which actually explained a lot. Sheâd wondered how she mightâve fallen for Chat Noir, in that other timeline. He was very pretty (she might not mention it often, but she had EYES), and fun, and loyal, but heâd never really been her type, since sheâd always seem him as a bit of a roguish braggart, and she was more into quiet sincerity and kindness. ...Both of which sheâd seen from Chat Noir, but it wasnât normally part of her conception of him.
Of course if Chat Noir found out her identity, theyâd end up dating. She wouldnât turn down Adrien.Â
âI- I guess- I think with all those other secrets, I- I may have let my fears cloud my judgement, I⊠may have gotten carried away,â she admitted.
Alya cocked an eyebrow. âYou think?â She rubbed her forehead, looking like she was trying to soothe a headache. âCatastrophizing?â she guessed.
Huh.
Come to think of it - that train of thought connecting telling Chat⊠well, pretty much anything, to âthe end of the worldâ, DID seem a lot like the kind of logic sheâd end up using while spiralling. It made a lot of sense in the moment, but when trying to puzzle through it when she was calmer, it seemed pretty silly.
âI think youâre right,â she said.
âProbably didnât help that the actual end of the world was apparently on the table,â Alya said, the side of her mouth quirking up into a slight smile.
Marinette chuckled. âYeah.â
âBut I still donât get it. Why did you change your mind about showing him your identity?â
âOh⊠well⊠uh...â
How could she explain this? She couldnât say âwell he turned out to be my crush, someone who I thought was completely different from my partner, and I blue-screened so hard I couldnât bear the thought of erasing that knowledge without processing it. And after I worked through it, I was too enamored with the idea of finally asking out Adrien, of finally getting together with him, to even think about Chat Blancâ. Sheâd betrayed his identity to others enough already.
âWell?â Alya looked at her expectantly.
âUh⊠letâs just say that his identity was surprising enough that it drove all thoughts of Chat Blanc out of my head,â she said. Her cheeks felt warm.Â
âI see,â Alya said, sounding bemused. A smile played across her lips.
âPlease donât look into that deeper,â she pleaded.
âShould I start rebuilding my Ladynoir folder?â
âAl-ya!â she said, shoving her. But the slight giggle in her voice betrayed her true feelings.
Alya smirked, before resuming her serious expression. âYou need to tell him, Marinette. All of it. Before this gets worse than it already is.â
âI know.â Even to her own ears, she sounded like she was approaching the gallows.
She swallowed, reaching for the railing of her bedâs staircase.
âOh, uh, Marinette-â
She turned around, looking back at Alya. Who seemed strangely nervous, looking off to the side. She almost sounded embarrassed. âWhile weâre confessing things - I may have told Nino that I still have my Miraculous.â
âWhat?â
---------
Ladybug took a deep breath, steeling herself. âCome on, you can do this,â she muttered. âYou talk to him every day. Without stuttering, even! You just need to tell him youâve been going behind his back for months and flat-out lied to him. Yep! No problem at all! Everything will be fine.â
âWhat will be fine, Milady?â
She gulped. Slowly, she turned around.
Chat Noir leaned on his stick, smiling brightly, his ears pricked.
âItâs uh-â I need to tell you something that might destroy our friendship. âI-â
âLadybug? Are you okay?â
âNo,â she whispered, not meeting his eyes.Â
He gripped her shoulders, looking at her intently. âLook. Whatever it is, we can get through it, together. The two of us against the world, remember?â
She flinched. âI- this- this isnât-â She choked back a sob. âRemember, when you said you felt like there was some sort of conspiracy to keep you out of the loop?â
He stared at her, eyes wide. The end of his tail twitched. âYeah, but- I told that to Marinette. What- what about it?â
âYou⊠werenât totally wrong.â
âLadybug, what-â
She took a deep breath. âYou know Rena Rouge, how I stopped recruiting her, right?â
âI mean⊠I did think it was a little weird how she stopped showing up. Especially with Carapace still popping up regularly. They often appear together.â
âItâs because Shadowmoth thinks Rena Rouge is out of commission, that I wonât give her the Fox Miraculous anymore. So I canât have her fighting villains openly.â
âFighting villains openly?â Chatâs brows furrowed. âWait- so she still has her Miraculous then?â
She nodded. âI gave it to her permanently after that last fight against Style Queen so Iâd have back-up in case something happened to me. Sheâs been following us secretly during patrols and akuma fights ever since, helping out whenever she can without blowing her cover, and keeping an eye out for Shadowmoth, so she can follow him back to his base if he ever shows his face.â
âAnd you decided not to tell me.â Chat said, his voice hard, but calm.
She winced. âI- I just kept thinking that if you knew, well- pretty much anything, something terrible might happen. A few months ago, Bunnix took me back to undo an alternate timeline, one where youâd been akumatized and everyone else was dead, and somehow, it was caused by you - Adrien-you - seeing me leave a signed present for you, as Ladybug. Your akumatized self - he knew my identity. He- he said âour love did this to the worldâ. After Iâd purified him, I went back and erased my signature. That fixed everything.â
Her partner stared at her, gaping. She couldnât blame him. It was a lot to process.
âAfter that, well,â she gave him a small, embarrassed smile. âI didnât want to rock the boat. I thought that if I just didnât change anything I didnât absolutely have to, didnât give you any more info than I needed to, everything would be fine.â
âAnd you didnât think I needed to know any of this?â he asked quietly.Â
She couldnât meet his eyes. âNo. If I could just⊠not tell you about anything, if trying to keep it from you didnât cause immediate problems, then... I didnât.â
His eyebrows drew together. âWait, but- if you thought my knowing your identity had something to do with the end of the world, then why were you so adamant about us revealing our identities to each other?â
âIâŠâ She looked down, taking a deep breath.Â
âYou never actually intended to tell me your identity, did you?â he said, realization sinking in. âYou just told me that, so youâd be sure Iâd reveal my identity, but you never intended on following through.â
She swallowed. âI- I never intended for you to remember that Iâd asked at all. Su Han ambushed me after that akuma fight with Moolak, the one you werenât there for. He demanded I find out your identity, so I could retrieve you no matter what, and so I could- I could take back your Miraculous if you ever turned evil. I said that would never happen, of course, but he didnât care. He just kept on insisting that I learn your identity, or at least tell him your identity, so he could do it himself.â
âThatâs how he knew where I lived,â Chat said, eyes widening. âAnd- and when you said it wasnât my fault-â
She sucked in a breath. âYeah. It was mine. I let him know just after I left the tower.â
âYou said you never intended for me to remember. What did you mean?â he asked. Her partnerâs voice was dry and hard.
âI knew there was a risk in anyone knowing both of our identities,â she said, looking anywhere but at her partner. âAnd I thought that if you knew what I needed your identity for, that I needed you to tell it to Su-Han, to someone you donât like- I wasnât sure youâd agree. So I- I decided to circumvent the issue entirely. I acquired some wireless headsets, giving one to Viperion and keeping one for myself. I had him start a Second Chance just before you arrived. The plan was, after I told you I wanted a full reveal and convinced you to reveal first, Iâd tell Viperion your name over the headset. Then heâd reset it, tell me he already knew your identity, and Iâd make up some other reason for why I called you over, with Viperion finding Su-Han and telling him your identity.â
âYou just- you werenât planning on telling me anything? Anything at all? The possibility of my not agreeing was just- just an issue to be played around?â Chat asked incredulously. âAnd Viperion- Luka- he was in on this too?â
She flinched. âUm⊠I donât know if it makes it better, but⊠he did try to persuade me to tell you directly what was going on, that I needed you to tell your identity to him. I told him that you wouldnât tell your identity to anyone but me, and he dropped it.â
âAnd you STILL WENT THROUGH WITH IT?!â He shouted, breathing heavily. He closed his eyes. âDo you have that little respect for me?â he asked quietly. âMy ability to choose- my right to know- my right to say no- they didnât matter to you at all?â
She had nothing to say to that. Truthfully⊠they hadnât. None of those things had occurred to her at all, not during any stage of the plan.
âBut- but if that was the plan- why didnât you go through with it?â he asked dully. âYou could've just left me completely in the dark, your happy little pawn, totally oblivious to everything.â
She bit her lip. âBecause you were Adrien, and I hadnât known you as well as Iâd thought- in OR out of costume. I- I needed time to think. To understand.â And also because Iâm in love with you. She figured that was one secret she should keep for now. This wasnât the time for a love confession.
He barked out a laugh. âYou barely know me as Adrien!â
She shook her head. âNo, I do. Or well⊠I spend a lot of time around you at least.â She couldnât rightly say sheâd known him well, not when she hadnât even been able to comprehend the possibility that her two favorite blond boys were one and the same.Â
Taking a deep breath, she said the words that might break her ability to have any sort of relationship with Chat, to be around Adrien at all, in any combination of costumes. âTikki, Spots off.â
The magic whooshed over her, leaving her in her normal black jacket and white shirt. She felt strangely vulnerable without her super suit.Â
He backed away. âI- I just- I need some time,â he told her, his voice cracking. Without another word, he extended his stick, launching himself into the night.
She stared at him helplessly, arm still extended, before breaking down sobbing, sure that sheâd lost two of the most precious people to her forever.
-----------
Chat ran.
He couldnât be around Ladybug- around Marinette. Not after finding out- finding out EVERYTHING.
At least, he hoped it was everything. Any more, and heâd break.
If he wasnât broken already.
After running, jumping, and helicoptering halfway across the city, he gradually started to slow down. Tears formed in his eyes. âWhy? How? She- she-!â
Sheâd walked up to him, taken his hands in hers, told him earnestly while looking into his eyes that they should both know each otherâs identities, talked about how it would help them fight against Shadowmoth more effectively, and beat him faster.
It had all been a lie.Â
Even her seeming shyness when heâd proposed that she detransform first, or that they both detransform together - heâd thought it was a moment of vulnerability from her, an expression of her nervousness as they prepared to enter a new era of their partnership.
Turned out it was just a tool, a way to maneuver him how she needed to, in order to execute her plan.Â
âWonder if that makes me her Lucky Charm?â He asked himself mockingly.
Sheâd just- sheâd just considered his ability to make his own decisions, to maybe, possibly, not do what sheâd wanted him to do, a minor inconvenience - nothing more. Just a hiccup in her plot, something easily rectified with a little ingenuity.Â
He touched down in a nearby park. Finding the most out-of-the-way, random boulder, he brought his stick down, smashing it into rubble.
âDo you often come to my house at night to smash rocks?â a familiar voice asked dryly.Â
He turned around, his eyes widening. âKagami?â
Blinking, he took a closer look around. He hadnât really been thinking about where he was heading. Unknowingly, unconsciously, heâd run to the Tsurugiâs yard, where Kagami normally sparred with her mother.Â
He rubbed his neck self-consciously. âSorry, I wasnât really thinking straight, I thought this was a public park. Iâll get out of your hair.â He turned away.
A hand grabbed his wrist. âNo, wait,â Kagami said. âThat need to destroy something, to take your feelings out on something - I know what itâs like. I did something similar, just before getting akumatized into Oni-Chan.â
He blinked. âYou smashed a rock?â
âActually I cut down a tree, but the principle is the same. I believe it would be better if you do not get to a point where Shadowmoth could akumatize you. You should stay and talk.â
He chuckled. Kagami, as blunt and to the point as ever.
âI donât know how much itâll help,â he told her bitterly. âI- I donât know what CAN help with this.â
âIâve always found sparring to be helpful in working through my feelings. Do you fence?â
He smiled. âI think youâll find Iâm a cat-tastic fencer,â he preened, letting a little of his usual Chat Noir bravado seep through.Â
She reached down into her bag, bringing out her foil. âThen this will be an exciting match.â
He blinked. âYou just-?â then shook his head. At this point he shouldnât be surprised that she just carted her weapon around wherever she went.
âYou ready?â she asked, raising her weapon.Â
He nodded, raising his stick as well.
âThen letâs begin.â
Rhythmically he thrust, parried, and dodged, losing himself in the familiar comfort of sparring with his ex-girlfriend. Though it was a lot easier in the suit - his reaction time improved, his blows had more strength (though he reined it in), and his footwork became faster. Not that it was a one-sided bout- Kagami was holding her own impressively well.
âYou know, the way youâre going, you might actually be able to beat an akuma even without a Miraculous,â he said, only half-joking.Â
She gave a small nod, not taking her eyes off of him. âIâm counting on it. Of course, Iâll have to actually have my foil on me. The mic stand had some nice reach, but was unbalanced, and ultimately I didnât get the chance to hit Desperada herself. Throwing a chair at Style Queen was effective, but one time use only. Fencing Collector was mostly effective, until he stole my foil. I believe with other akumas who canât neutralize it as easily, I may be able to stop them myself.â
âI donât doubt it.â
After several minutes of fighting, they began slowing down, striking fewer, less forceful blows.
âDo you wish to talk about⊠whatever the problem is?â Kagami asked at last.Â
He sighed. âLadybug broke my trust. Majorly. And I donât know where to go from here.â
Kagami blocked his strike. âThat doesnât sound like her.â
âI used to think that too. Then she kept leaving me out of the loop, keeping things hidden from me. Things that Iâd only find out accidentally, second-hand. Except- except for this last time.â He grimaced. âAt least she decided to tell me about it herself. If Iâd had to find out on my ownâŠâ He didnât want to think about it. It was bad enough without that added sting.
âIt was that bad?â
How much to tell her? Some things he had to keep secret, but if he kept it vague- âShe kept hidden from me some changes she made to the team, some things that could change what I do on the battlefield. Sheâs let other people know each otherâs identities, even though sheâs always said weâre forbidden to. But thatâs minor compared to what she did recently.â
He dodged a blow, bending backwards in a way that he was 90% sure he wouldnât have been able to move without Plaggâs assistance. âShe lied to me, told me we were going to have a full reveal, all while wearing a headset so that Lu- so that someone could listen in on my identity, so he could give it to someone else who I canât stand. Then reset the timeline so I wouldnât suspect anything had even happened.â
Kagami paused. âWhat?!â
He grimaced. âYeah. That was about my reaction, too. It was a bitter pill to swallow. I- I never expected that from her.â
She thrust forwards. âI know what itâs like, you know. To find out that someone you care about lied to you, repeatedly. And not know what to do with that information afterwards, to have trouble reconciling it with the person you thought you knew.â
He winced. She did know, didnât she? Heâd had to lie to her constantly to keep his identity secret. He didnât regret doing that - he hadnât had much of a choice - but he hated how badly itâd hurt her. He - him as Adrien - had rekindled their friendship, but it wasnât nearly as close as it once was. Trust, once broken, is not easily mended.
He hadnât had much of a choice back then - but what about now? Ladybug - Marinette - had told someone her identity. Why shouldnât he get to tell someone his? Someone he trusted, someone whoâd been hurt by his having to lie.Â
âAdrien didnât want to lie to you, you know?â he said quietly. âBut his secret- he had to keep it. Even if it meant lying to the people he cared about.â
She narrowed her eyes. âHow did you know I was talking about Adrien?â she asked suspiciously.
He stepped back, ending the bout. She did the same. âCan you keep a secret?â he asked.Â
She studied him for a moment, trying to figure out where he was going with this. Finally she nodded.
âClaws in.â
Kagami sucked in a breath. âAdrien.â
He smiled sheepishly. âI never wanted to lie to you. I wasnât trying to avoid you. But between akumas, sentimonsters, and patrols, I kept on needing to run out on you all the same. Iâm sorry I hurt you along the way,â he said softly.
She closed her eyes for a moment. âI always knew you had sincerity in you.â She opened her eyes, smiling. âIâm glad I was right.â
âAfter- after we broke up- how did you cope?â he asked quietly. âHow did you get to the point where you could stand to even be in the same room with me, to where we could talk again, after everything that happened?â
âTime,â she said. âThat, and realizing that someone else was far more in love with you than Iâd ever been. It allowed me to let go, to concentrate on getting you two to see what was in front of you, rather than just thinking about what might have been.â
He looked at her questioningly. âSomeoneâs in love with me? Who?â
âThatâs up to her to tell, assuming she can ever work up the courage,â she said.
He hummed for a moment. As much as he was dying to know, he knew Kagami. If she said it wasnât her place to tell, then it was no use pressing further.Â
âI donât think I can do that,â he said finally. âI canât just keep my distance from her. We fight akumas together. We canât afford it.â
The âfind someone who was more in love with Ladybug- with Marinette-â part wouldnât be so hard at least. Probably. She had her eyes set on her Buttercup, whoever he was. As soon as she finally confessed to him, sheâd get her fairy tale romance sheâd always wanted.
The thought wasnât as bitter as heâd thought it would be.
âDo you still believe in her at all?â Kagami asked. âDo you think Ladybugâs completely lost? Or do you see sincerity in her as well?â
He thought back to Ladybugâs explanation, to her expression as sheâd explained everything, laid out her thought process for every decision she made, as well as she was able to.Â
âI think I do,â he said. For the first time since his world had been turned upside-down, he felt a tiny ray of hope.
--------
Chat helicoptered onto the tower. Between talking with Kagami and getting some sleep, he felt a lot calmer than heâd been yesterday. Still, it was a good thing they had today off from school. He wasnât sure how heâd have handled seeing Marinette again, before theyâd had time to really talk.Â
Ladybug touched down on the walkway in front of him, stumbling on the landing. He winced.
She was a mess. Heâd thought she looked a little off yesterday, like she hadnât slept very well. Today she looked like she hadnât slept for a week. Her hair was in its signature pigtails, but frayed near the ponytail holders, with stray hairs floating freely. She stood uncertainly, looking like even a slight push could send her toppling over. Even her mask couldnât hide the bags under her eyes. Still, he wasnât able to keep himself from surreptitiously checking her ears, just to make sure she wasnât talking to someone remotely, ready to trigger a Second Chance if things went wrong.
Her ears were clear.
âI told someone else my identity. Someone I trust,â he said, his eyes boring into hers, daring her to tell him he wasnât allowed to divulge his identity without her permission, or to demand to know who his confidant was so she could vet their trustworthiness.
Ladybug simply nodded.
âSo what now?â she asked. âIâm- Iâm guessing you donât want to be partners anymore? Not that I blame youâŠâ She sounded like she was about to cry.
He walked to the railing, looking out to the city. âParis needs its protectors,â he said finally. âThat hasnât changed.â He turned to face her. âEven after everything, youâre still my partner.â
Ladybugâs eyes grew wet. He fought back the urge to give her a hug. âDonât get me wrong, Iâm still upset about being kept out of the loop, and especially with being lied to and manipulated. I- I trusted you. A lot. And now- now I donât.â
He let out a deep sigh. âBut I want to. Youâve been one of my closest friends, as both Adrien AND Chat Noir. I donât think thereâs anyway to just- just quickly fix this, to make things go back to the way they were before. But maybe we can still fight alongside each other anyway. Like you said back when we fought Crocoduel: itâs no reason to stop talking to each other.â
His partner stared at him for a moment, eyes wide, before breaking down in tears. This time, he gave in, hugging her tightly, and for a moment, everything felt right.
After a minute of hugging, he drew back. âThis canât happen again,â he said firmly. âIf weâre partners, that means I need a say in things, to be included in decisions, to at least know whatâs going on, and not be left out without very solid reason for it.âÂ
She nodded, before burying her face in his chest. âI- I know,â she said shakily, her voice slightly muffled. Drawing back, she looked up at him. âIs- is there anything else? Anything that could help?â
He thought for a moment. âWell- thereâs something thatâs been bothering me for awhile,â he said slowly. âIt probably doesnât matter at this point, so much has happened since then, but- the first time you kept something from me, when you called me over and said you suspected that Father was Hawkmoth - why did you think that? I know you pointed out the butterfly logos and that heâs a recluse, but something else pointed you towards him in the first place.â
âOh. That. Well you see, he owned this book-â her eyes widened. âOh CRAP you were the one with the book.âÂ
He tilted his head. âUh. What book?â
âThe one with all the pictures of Miraculous Wielders, remember? Tikki recognized it and insisted I take it.â She frowned. âBut, wait- if you had it, why didnât Plagg make you take it to Master Fu? Thatâs how I âofficiallyâ met him: Tikki needed me to take it to the Guardian. Did Plagg not ask you to, or had you just not gotten the opportunity yet?â
He snorted. âYou think Plagg knew what it was? He said it looked familiar, then got bored and demanded more cheese.â
If Plagg had recognized it, had insisted he take it to Fu⊠how much wouldâve changed? He wouldnât have been left out of the loop from the start. Heâd have been the one doling out Miraculous, visiting the Guardian on a regular basis, learning what heâd need to know if - when - something happened to Fu. None of this whole mess wouldâve happened.
Such a small change, with such a big impact.
Wait, but- âWhy did you think Father owning the book meant that he was Hawkmoth?â he asked, confused. âBecause itâs related to the Miraculous?â
âActually, it was Fuâs theory,â she admitted. âOn the day the Guardiansâ temple was destroyed, he lost three things: the Butterfly and Peacock Miraculous, and the Miraculous Grimoire. He believed that the same person who had the Butterfly Miraculous probably had the Grimoire as well, since they were lost together. But Gabriel was akumatized, so we scrapped that idea. Though, come to think of it-â
She hesitated, indecision written across her face.Â
âWhat is it? Whatâre you thinking about?â he asked urgently.
She held back a moment longer, wincing. âYouâre not going to like this, but⊠isnât it weird how Gabriel just happened to be the very next person akumatized, after finding out his book, evidence that linked him to the Miraculous, and maybe even to Hawkmoth, was stolen? Plus he has an accomplice, he couldâve gotten her to akumatize him. Or maybe even akumatized himself, I still need to finish deciphering the notes on the Butterfly Miraculous, he mightâve been able to do that somehow.â
Dread slowly crept up his spine. It made sense. And- and he couldnât say his father wouldnât do it. Even back when sheâd first proposed the idea, heâd thought it was possible. Father had only sunk lower since then.
âI hope youâre wrong,â he said, âbut Iâll be careful.â
She nodded, looking at him worriedly. He didnât blame her. Bad enough thinking that HE might be in the line of fire, that he mightâve been fighting against his own father this entire time. If heâd thought there was a chance that Marinette was sleeping in the lionâs den every night⊠he might not be happy with her right now, but that didnât mean he wanted her to be in danger or to get hurt.
âI donât want anything to happen to you,â she said quietly, stepping forwards. She tripped on thin air. He caught her just before she hit the floor.
âDo you want an escort home?â he asked. âI think this sleep-deprived bug needs a nap.â
She groaned. âThat would be great.â
As he extended his staff, following Ladybug as she swung home, he smiled. Things werenât exactly okay between them, but they werenât totally destroyed either. And maybe now, theyâd have a chance to get better.
it's been a few weeks since ephemeral and we've all had time to process our episode and our feelings about it. what is your current take on why chat blanc never came up in the episode? i used to be firmly in the camp of the one-sided reveal, since bunnix left marinette with the impression that adrien knowing her identity led to chat blanc, and that's to be avoided. knowing that you crush killed you and all of humanity in an alternate timeline has to... come up somehow, no?
Ok so, I had to really think about this, since I wrote an Ephemeral Ladynoir Conflict fix-it fic and I needed to dig into Marinette's reasoning for it.
I'm guessing that Chat Blanc IS playing a role in Marinette's decision-making regarding leaving Chat Noir out of the loop - she really doesn't have a lot of other reasons for doing that, and we saw her nightmare about Chat Blanc in Sentibubbler, so that timeline IS on her mind.
But it didn't come up during Ephemeral, and it really should have, especially regarding Ladybug revealing her identity to her partner. The way I rationalized it is that her finding out Chat's identity, that he's ADRIEN, the love of her life and someone she thought was COMPLETELY DIFFERENT from her partner, shocked her enough that she just wasn't thinking about Chat Blanc - and that once she got over her shock and began to see Adrien and Chat Noir as one-and-the-same, she was so enamored with the idea of being able to tell him her identity, of him loving her back, that she just didn't think about Chat Blanc.
This is what I wrote for my fic:
âYou screwed up,â Alya told her bluntly.
Marinette groaned.
Alya glared at her. âAt the time you said it you werenât planning on following through, so yes, that was a lie.â
Alya frowned. âAre you that confident you couldnât take him in a fight, even with the entire team?â
âWell⊠no, Iâm pretty sure we could, he was good but not THAT good,â she admitted.
âThen why were you so hung up about needing to get Chatâs identity to the guy, no matter what?â Alya asked, exasperated.
âI mean, I still donât want to fight him, especially since he knows where I live.â
âAnd now he knows where Chat lives.â
Slowly, the blob resolved into Alyaâs worried face.
âI- I donât know that I wouldâve been able to forgive him,â she whispered. âWhat- what do I do ?
If she told him everything - if she followed through on her promise to reveal her secret identity to him, a promise she hadnât intended to keep when she first made it- she might not only lose her partner, but the love of her life as well.
Her eyes ventured to the Miracle Box.
âMarinetteâŠâ Alya said warningly.
âWouldnât it be better to just not make the mistake in the first place?â Marinette asked, eyes locked on the box. âTo get around it entirely?â
Alya stepped in front of the box. âMarinette, NO.â
âBut-â
âLook. Maybe itâll go wrong. Maybe youâll fight. But that doesnât mean you have the right to undo it, just because things donât go the way you want!â
âEven if it means the end of the world?â
Alya blinked. âWhat?â
Marinette looked down. âA few months ago, Bunnix showed me an alternate timeline.
Wouldnât that reveal have been the most likely thing to trigger Chatâs akumatization, from what you said?â
âWell⊠yeah⊠I guess so,â she admitted.
âThen why was him finding out about Rena Furtive higher on your list of worries?â
âIâŠâ
Alya had a point. Sheâd been so worried about what tiny change could cause things to go wrong, that sheâd been controlling all the information, keeping all the secrets that Chat wasnât technically required to know, but as soon as sheâd found out Chatâs identity, those worries had gone out the window.
Because he was Adrien.
She wouldnât turn down Adrien.
âI- I guess- I think with all those other secrets, I- I may have let my fears cloud my judgement, I⊠may have gotten carried away,â she admitted.
Alya cocked an eyebrow. â You think? â She rubbed her forehead, looking like she was trying to soothe a headache. âCatastrophizing?â she guessed.
Her cheeks felt warm.
âI see,â Alya said, sounding bemused. A smile played across her lips.
âPlease donât look into that deeper,â she pleaded.
âShould I start rebuilding my Ladynoir folder?â
âAl- ya !â she said, shoving her. But the slight giggle in her voice betrayed her true feelings.
Alya smirked, before resuming her serious expression. âYou need to tell him, Marinette. All of it. Before this gets worse than it already is.â
Tutorial discussions concerning development in practice-
Illusion to something is really evident and an important aspect within the presented work, however the importance is somehow masked. There is something there that appears so certain of itself, yet also hidden: codified to the extreme of non-communication (which is compelling). Many of the glossary terms, that can been seen in the third image, are defunct. WYSIWYG (an abbreviation on the list 'What You See Is What You Getâ) has links with illegal streaming sites (computer programs that are accessible - if one has connectivity, and the knowledge to do so).
An element of the subversive and the way that language has been 'transmorphed' appears to be taking place within the installation.
My appreciation of particular choices of materials (and in some ways, accidental/chance materials within piece - such as the wooden plank, become essential) is a recognition of the way in which I work: a methodology. Materials dictate what can be produced and can in some instances create blockages for productivity. However, the materials and the relationships between them, which are particularly placed, go beyond the written word creating somewhat of a map/language in its own right.
The uncanniness of the language being explored in my practice is both doffing the cap to, and making a total mockery of the language itself. Uncanny, in the way that it comes together in presentation/assemblage, alludes to be 'something', but the more one looks, the more difficult it is to get to what that âsomethingâ is (which in itself is fairly uncanny, as it discombobulates a viewer, in the same way that an uncanny object makes one feel a bit uncomfortable). There are lines of communication, that one feels familiar with and pulls the viewer in, but no purchase can be found, reminding the viewer of the uncanny, through a totally different language (not myth, storytelling, figure, etc.) - this is something I want to tap into - this uncanny/uncomfortable feeling produced, in relation to technological modernity.
Slippage is in operation within the space: entering the world of AI as a context. âThe slippage between/the transient betweenâ is developing as a theme within my practice (conjuring the feeling of the uncanny, without being uncanny in relation to Kitsch).
Further investigation -
- Investigation into the work of Ian Kiaer, who uses similar materials (e.g. plastic, found items) and works in a similar language - how he verbalises his practice is worth exploration.
- Sam Harris' podcasts with an online feed (e.g. The Future of Intelligence) - an ex- neuroscientist and modern-day philosopher who has an anti-religion, scientific and human outlook on future technologies, such as AI (of which he is particularly fearful about). He operates in the unknown point of current modernity (as I do in my practical exploration), and the cusp between events that are supposedly solid whilst experiencing them, but are actually transient when looking towards them/back at them.

Repost of @aureus_art as the take over continues. head over to see more of it. Here and Now There and Then, 2014 /12,4 x18,2 m / Mould Ceramics You will have to look at the whole series of images to understand the piece! At my last solo show I covered the entire floor of the gallery with ceramic tiles of crease patterns. The progressive degeneration caused by the visitors made them part of the creation and let them experience the transcient nature of beauty. Allthough we are all concious of the fact that nothing lasts for ever in western culture we are rarely thaught to let go, taught to embrace the ephemeral for what it is. #ceramics #floor #installation #folded #paper #pattern #ephemeral #transcient #letgo #destruction #wabisabi #origami #tiles
