It was the first time Halsin had invited Tav to come bathe with him.
They had just set up camp in a new location that afternoon, spending the better part of the day unpacking and settling in. After some hunting, scavenging for firewood, and looking for water, everyone at camp was beat.
Gale had prepared a practical feast for everyone after Halsin and Astarionâs bountiful hunt. Tav even pitched in, following Galeâs instructions diligently. After dinner, the others had gone off to do their own thingâreading, bathing, drinkingâwhile Tav and Halsin found themselves staying behind to clean up after dinner. They lightly joked about being the most responsible ones at camp, talked about life before all of this, and it made the time go faster. Before they knew it, the full moon was high in the dark sky. It was getting late.
âWould you like to come bathe with me? Iâd like to get cleaned up before bed. Thereâs a small river not too far from here.â Halsin offered, turning to Tav as he stood up. It was not a suggestive offer, rather a very genuine one. Tav got the impression that Halsin did not find nudity to be a very big deal, as a result of his natural lifestyle, but also his maturity. Luckily, Tav felt the same.
âThat sounds quite nice, Halsin. I appreciate your offering, let me collect my things and we can walk there together.â
And with that, the two split up to their respective tents before meeting again at the edge of the clearing, walking deeper into the woods side by side.

Tav turned and felt Halsinâs deep hazel eyes boring into him with a smoldering look. It wasnât objectifying, but admiring, and despite his staring at Tavâs naked form, it was respectful. There was a cool nip in the air, the breeze spreading across the waterâs surface. Despite the temperature, Tav felt a hot rush of blood to his face. He carried himself with pride and grace, so he did not shy away from the sustained gaze. It was flattering, but somehow also affirming. He was worthy of a lingering glance. The cool water touched his skin as he waded into the water to join Halsin.
âI have met other men like you beforeâ Halsin stated, calmly. His eyes met Tavâs.
âMen like me, you say. What do me and these men have in common?â He had a twinkle in his eye when he said it, and a playful tone. Tav drew his attention back to bathing himself, sudsing his bar of soap on his arm absentmindedly while he waited for Halsinâs answer. He was not made to wait long.
âI sense a hint of levity in your tone,â Halsin said, catching his gaze with a smile, âBut these men Iâm referring to are similar to you in that they have taken initiative of their own lives and not let the past define them. They once lived as women but now are men. I take it you are the same?â
Halsin did not shy away, which sent shock waves through Tav. Most people beat around the bush, slunk around what they truly meant to say until it drove him mad. Even with how relaxed surface elven culture was around gender, not everyone felt comfortable with it. Halsin also did not fully assume, wisely, who or what the other man was. A refreshing change of pace.
âYou would be correct. It seems me and these men may be one and the same,â Tav tried to suppress his giddiness. Standing in front of someone and being seenâtruly seenâ was thrilling.
âAnd what do you make of us?â He asked pointedly, staring Halsin down. He walked closer to him in the calm, steady stream.
The water came up to his belly button, lightly obscuring his sex. Keen, curious eyes could see right through the clear water to see what they desired, however.
The reflection of the moon on the waterâs surface lit up his toned torso. Two parallel scars ran under his pectorals, accompanied by two soft, plush nipples. He wore a gold chain that snaked around his neck and collarbone. His hair billowed down his neck wildly, loose hairs clinging, framing his face.
Halsin stood before him, the water lapping against his thick and furry upper thigh. His sex was not obscured. He was unusually large for an elf (in more ways than one). Tav estimated Halsin had about a foot of height and more than a hundred pounds of weight on him. Suddenly he felt very small. Other druids from the grove had twisted small strands of braids throughout his shoulder length chestnut hair, and he hadnât worked up the heart to take them out yet. His jaw was square, and set, his lips pursed and aching for contact. A curious gaze played on his face, an eyebrow raised.
âI believe I understand what youâre getting at, and to the effect of your question, I admire that kind of person. I find them to be brave, following their truth.â Halsin paused, taking a moment to break eye contact and let the sounds of the forest settle in the absence of his own voice. Tav felt himself take a deep breath, relaxing into the temperature of the water, and the conversation.
âBut, quite honestly, you and those men have only the one trait in common, so I cannot say that what I âmakeâ of them, and you, for that matter, is unanimous.â He ended this with a genuine look to Tav, peering deep into his soul.
Tav was smug, and happy. Halsin had passed an unspoken exam, and proved himself within a metric that Tav measured all people, but especially romantic interests.
It shouldnât have been a surprise that Halsin had a more developed perspective on personal identity and gender. After all his time in FaerĂťn, and a hundred of those serving as a leader of the Emerald Grove, he was a distinctly wise person. In addition, Tav got the feeling that he had laid with a wide variety of diverse lovers, and had partaken in pleasure of the flesh, unique and otherwise.
It was a great weight off his chest to be physically seen by Halsin, his nude body, but also spiritually, his soul laid bare.
Though his mind raced with a million thoughts and questions, wanting to probe Halsin about every person he had met with a unique experience with their gender, or what expression he personally used for himself, maybe even what he was most attracted toâhe silenced this train of thought. There were many days to be had with Halsin, and more conversations such as this. Sometimes, the simplest dialogues were the sweetest. Plus, his eyelids grew heavy, and he felt that this shared bath may be coming to a close.
âWhen you offered to come bathe with me, I knew that you knew about me. Iâm glad. . . Iâm glad that you arenât deterred from my company.â Tav admitted honestly, having to cast his gaze aside, remnants of shame he thought he had long grown past, rumbling in his mind.
Halsin only bellowed in laughter and took a wide step closer to him, nearly closing their gap. Tavâs heart jumped in his chest, beating so loudly it rung in his ears. He could feel Halsinâs presence, smell his scent, absorb his warmthâand it crackled with red hot energy.
âYou are quite difficult to be deterred from, donât you know?â
