So this is my favourite HC of all time (totally not because I’m still in love with the woman who came up with it with me lol) and I cannot start this rant without mentioning Lisa the Male Lesbian from the L Word because the discourse around that character is like essential to the birth of this headcanon lmao. Yes I have references bc it’s entirely informed by trans lesbians experiences

- people often joke that Sokka is an “honourary lesbian” “male lesbian” etc. since like four different female characters who are obviously queer crushed on them (Toph, Ty Lee, Yue & Suki)

- the whole “lesbian in a male body” “man who wishes he was a lesbian” joke is transmisogynistic but many trans women relate to it because they had similar thoughts before coming out

- my friends and I used to joke that Sokka has “egg” (ie. a trans person who has not yet realised they’re trans) energy because of the lesbian crushes, and mostly because Sokka unlearns (internalised) misogyny very quickly and then exudes femme energy (trans culture)

(also this tweet: “If trans women aren’t real women then why do so many closeted lesbians date eggs in high school”)

- add in the idea that Yue’s trans and/or Suki’s trans (bc Kyoshi was) it makes 100% sense that Sokka was subconsciously seeking out queer trans women in an attempt to understand their own gender & sexuality in this reading

- also it’s wholesome to think about transfemme Suki giving closeted transfem Sokka a space to explore their gender & teach them femme tricks of the trade

- I personally hc Sokka as a bisexual nonbinary transfem but this doesn’t negate that coming out experience headcanon

With ATLA 😌 (I haven’t seen Korra btw don’t mind the inaccuracy about hc of when they’re adults)

Sokka :

- Starting with the obvious , this Boi is polyamorous 100%. 🖤❤️💙

- Bi ! 💗💜💙

- uuuuh probably not entirely Cis too. I just read something where they were genderfluid and I love it !! He/they vibes. Loved wearing the Kyoshi warrior dress, definitely wears makeup sometimes

- He’s dating Suki and Zuko and they’re married as per Southern Water Tribe tradition (but lowkey because the rest of the world can’t know the FireLord is married)

Suki :

- She/they vibes are strong for that one

- She’s pan and poly too ! 💗💛💙 🖤❤️💙 I like to think it’s integrated into the Kyoshi Warriors’ culture to have sexual/romantic relationships with multiple people at the same time :)

- They love cuddling with their partners :D

- She’d dating Sokka and two Kyoshi Warriors. They’re in a queerplatonic relationship with Zuko

Zuko :

- He’s gay youhou ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜

- Almost completely blind in his left eye and partially deaf in his left ear because of the scar

- Trans Man af

- Secretly married to Sokka, qpr with Suki

- He hates Water Tribe food but acts like he likes it for Sokka. Katara knows tho and she makes the things he dislikes the most when he comes down just to fuck with him :’)

Aang :

- Probably pan tbh 💗💛💙

- Monogamous 🤭

- He loves trying out the clothing style of different nations :)

- When he’s anxious about Avatar Work he goes to the garden and takes care of the plants

- Any pronouns work but he’s a Cis boy

Toph :

- doesn’t give a fuck about pronouns or gender

- Asexual and demiromantic

- she’s the first one to discover Sokka, Zuko and Suki’s relationship because their heartbeats gets stupidly fast when they’re around each other

- She runs underground Fights for anyone who wants it, bending or not.

- She takes in kids who’s parents are like hers, and she accidentally becomes a parent like that

these headcanons are not only top tier but extremely validating (he/she/they butch Suki is my gender) Sokka would absolutely not care about the “rules” about having a respectable gender. this headcanon is making me think about butch4butch Sukka which would be very them. however you headcanon them you have to accept that they would share a wardrobe
