I wish transgender folks would be cast in films. I want to see transwomen portray female characters (trans or cisgender!), but I'm afraid your rational of "transgender folks understand transgender characters" may be twisted back against us to saying "transgender people cannot portray cisgender characters" for the same reasons you've listed. Agreed: we need to speak up and ask that transfolk portray transfolk, but I'm concerned the logic you've relayed can be used against us tackling cis-roles.
I hear that, I really do, but they're already saying that trans people can't play trans characters, and that cis people can.Â
Given the choice between trans people being passed over for every character role, trans or cis, and ONLY trans people ONLY being cast for trans roles, I know which problem I want to have.Â
