i used to love this joke when i was 14, naive, and just engaging with the queer community for the first time. now on the other hand 😭

no, edgy 14 year olds are not these 'cool criminals' for being queer in america or the uk or whatever. honestly i just remembered this meme (and others like it) exist and.. tbh i don't understand how i didn't see what was wrong with it.

it's just plain insensitive imo to hear that queer people in certain countries are illegal (this means they are heavily discriminated against, hate crimed, even MURDERED, they do not have protections or rights relating to their queerness) and then joke about how YOU are a criminal in 72 countries.

yes queerphobia is a problem everywhere, but like. this is still so insensitive. why would you make jokes like these when you don't even live there and have to deal with that?? why would you boast about that when you've never gone through it?? why would you do that?? these people are actually dying and you're over here like 'hehhehe yeah i'm a criminal in 72 countries 😎'
