#trans!roger

“We’re here to see Roger Taylor.” 

They look ridiculously out of place in the hospital holding hundreds of balloons, a giant teddy bear, and hundreds of ‘Get Better’ cards which were sent by their fans. The secretary frowns, looks through the list of patients, the looks up again, “I’m sorry, sir, there seems to be no patient under the name of Roger Taylor.” 

John frowns at that, “Are you sure?” 

“Very sure,” the woman leafs through the patient record once again, “I think the person you want to see is Regina Taylor. ” 

He is about to say something, but then he hears loud steps down the hall. 

“John!” he turns to find Clare Taylor walking towards them, “Freddie! Brian! Oh thank god you’re here, I was starting to get worried you wouldn’t show up!” 

Freddie lets out a guffaw, “Oh, don’t be ridiculous dear. Of course, we were going show up, we were just getting held back by the receptionist, she told us there was no one called Roger Taylor here.” 

Clare sends the receptionist a glare and judging by the upturned nose and sudden disinterest, it seems like this is not the first time this happens. John finds himself frowning, but follows Clare once she beckons them towards the hall. She is grumbling something under her breath the whole way to the room, apparently very upset about the short interaction with the receptionist. 

She opens the door for them, clearly trying to hide something behind her back. She doesn’t make a good show out of it, but John decides to ignore it, just to make her less angsty, and because he wants to have the conversation with Roger instead of making conclusions. 

Sitting on the bed, reading a book, is Roger. He looks fine, mostly, the only things that seem to be broken or bruised are his left foot, which is in a sling, and his cheek. Apart from that, he looks like dear old Roger. 

He hears the ruckus in the room and turns towards them. It’s only then that John notices something else that seems to be off about Roger. He has breasts. 

They all seem to notice the same thing at the same time, and for a brief second, they are completely frozen. Freddie is the first one to break away from the spell, he steps forward and cups Roger’s face. “Oh, my darling, I hope that doesn’t leave a scar.” 

Roger frowns, almost as if he had been expecting something different to come out of Freddie’s mouth. Brian steps forward then, handing him the pack of cards they had brought with them, “The fans seem to miss you, you know? It’s making me quite jealous.” 

John, however, couldn’t seem to pry his eyes away from Roger’s chest, and not in a creepy or sexual way, but rather not quite understanding what he was seeing. He should have joined the dots, or at least tried to make Roger feel normal like the others were, but he was frozen in his spot. 

John looked up, meeting Roger’s eyes, and he saw the moment his friend’s heart broke. He gave John a tiny smile, filled to the brim with sadness, “I guess the cat is out of the bag now, huh?” 

“Roger—” 

“Regina, if it makes you feel better.” 

“Roger.” He took a step forward, putting his hand on the back of Roger’s neck and bringing the man to lay against his chest, “I’m sorry we made you feel like you couldn’t tell us.” 

That’s all it took for the blond to break down into sobs. He hugged John close as if he didn’t want him to disappear, and soon enough the four of them were wrapped around each other like a tangle of limbs. 

I know my inbox had seven or eight asks before i went to bed. Now i only have two (for the vampire au and then one that's not from the prompt list).

I know I had something with poly!queen and then trans!roger and then a few from the prompts list, but i can't remember what they were ;__;

So now to give you actual question an attempt!

(Trans roommates?? Are just yes??)

-Mark knows he’s trans a long time before Roger. And he struggles with a name, before finally deciding on Mark. It means “to be warlike”, but he sees it as “to stand up for yourself.”

-Roger knows later. He knows something’s off, that his birthname and “she” aren’t right. When he’s seventeen, he has an epiphany-“oH”-and starts going by a name he liked. “Roger.” It means “famous spear”, and hey, that sounds pretty punk rock.

-They meet when they’re nineteen. And…it’s such a relief.

“Hi, I’m Mark.”

“Roger.”

And that’s it. They’re friends immediately.

At first, neither knows the other’s trans. So when they become trans, they’re constantly dodging each other, thinking the other’s cis.

 “—and when looking at archives, we can see that the Taylor family didn’t have one girl and one boy, but rather two girls. Regina Meddows Taylor and Clare Taylor.” 

Roger nearly vomited at the mention of his deadname on live television, for the entirety of Britain to know. The reporter kept droning on and on about how the press had gotten the information about Roger’s past, even the hospital he got his top surgery in,  and he felt like he was about to pass out. 

Shivers raked up and down his body, breathing heavy and rapid as unwanted tears rolled down his cheeks. He hadn’t told anyone about his past. Nobody knew. 

He had kept his secret safe from everyone, including the band for over seven years, lying about his lack of sexual relationships and his inability to take off his shirt. He had even buried some of his best work deep inside his closet to make sure that nobody ever knew about his secret. 

Now, once he had turned rich, famous, and adored by many, it had come to bite him in the ass. They had just finished their most successful tour yet and judging by the fact that Roger was internationally outed probably meant that ‘News of the World’ would probably be their last tour. If not their last album. 

He wouldn’t blame his brothers (bandmates, he had to remind himself) if they were to walk out on him for lying and keeping a secret. However, some voice inside him pleaded that that would be the only reason they left. God knows what would happen to him if they were to go because they were disgusted he was trans. 

There was a knock on his front door, three small taps followed by two large thuds. It was their code, their signal that the person at the front gate wasn’t a nosey reporter or a fan trying to get a peek into the life of a rockstar. 

Roger wasn’t sure why he would have felt less shitty if it had been one of the latter. He wasn’t prepared for one of the hardest things to ever happen to him. 

The blonde walked over to the door, oversized t-shirt, making him look exceptionally small, and old pyjama pants falling from his slim hips. He sighed before opening the door, trying to blink away the tears that pooled at the brims of his eyes. 

When he opened the door, he was met with the smiling faces of his (ex) friends. Brian was wearing the navy blue coat they had bought together a few years back. Freddie had a large bouquet of pink roses, and Deaky had the most blinding smile of them all. 

“Good morning, darling,” Freddie greeted as he stepped into the house, giving a peck to Roger’s cheek, “I hope you are not very busy. We came here to invade your house.” 

Roger blinked twice, then Brian leaned down to flick the man’s nose, “Hope you have something for me to eat tomorrow for breakfast. You know I hate eggs.” 

“If it’s any consolation,” Deaky said after Brian stepped in, “I told them we should have called you first.” 

He looked like he was about to say something, then from inside he could hear a commotion and Brian screaming, “Freddie, I told you the vases were in the bottom shelf. Now, look at the mess you’ve made.” 

As Deaky stepped in, he closed the door behind him and took Roger’s hand to guide him to the study where he was previously sitting. The news program was still talking about his situation and Deaky grimaced before changing the channel into something less overwhelming. The Disney Channel was playing the Winnie Pooh movie.

Roger was far to shock to react to Deaky’s hand smoothing over his hair, wrapping him in a blanket, and then leaning down to press a kiss to his forehead. 

“Don’t worry, we will take care of you. Just like the old times.” 

He turned as if to go help Brian and Freddie with whatever they needed, but as he was leaving Roger called for John, “You all do know I am trans, right? I mean, you did hear it on the news?”

John smiled sadly as if this was something he had expected Roger to say, “Yeah, but that doesn’t change anything. You were trans when we became your friends. You were trans when we recorded our albums and had the best years of our lives. You having been born a girl will not change the person you are now, Roger, and we are here to remind you of that.” 

The tears and light shivers were now caused by a completely different thing. As were the sobs that racked his body. John turned walked towards the sofa and curled around Roger, trying to bring him comfort.
