THE TRAGEDY OF THE CROW → A NANO WIP INTRO
↳ genre: ya/na fantasy ↳ pov: single, third past limited ↳ status: planning / nano project ↳ themes: secrecy, magic, court politics, found family, identity exploration ↳ posting location: ao3, maybe wattpad or tapas, with tumblr updates
CARA FERNHERDT doesn’t know who she is. This has never been a problem, because no one else knows anything about her either. Not until now. A bodyguard-for-hire now contracted to a minor noble with a very major role in the country’s future, she’s thrust into the political ring of a country and threatened with the exposure of secrets she didn’t even know she had.
ALTERA VON SÖNNIGHEIT has been betrothed to the Prince of Kriga. An extremely important but perilous match, she’ll have to navigate her future court that would rather her dead than ruler, all while juggling her responsibilities to her people, herself, and whether or not her new bodyguard is a person worth aligning herself with.

FLF! (I love this idea) "What use are heroes without someone to fight, Max? We exist so the world does not realize that their heroes are simply one choice away from being us. "
oh you KNOW I’m a hoe for a good hero/villain dichotomy, especially when one or both sides are self-aware of their role! this villain sounds like they’re having a very philosophical time--I hope they can find another reason for their existence other than being someone else’s enemy <3
thank you for joining in with FLF!
Day 24: Lantern’s Light
Author: @tragedyshow
Genre: fantasy
What first piqued my interest: This one’s got an excellent premise (act of kindness + dying god = MC thrust into a battle between gods) plus interesting characters (MC who wants to be kind but is also real #done with gods who never did anything for her). And there’s an amnesia plot line. So yeah, I’m in.
What I want to learn more about: What happened during the last god battle? Why wasn’t Valery able to win, and what stands in her way this time? How will our MC, Soarran, deal with the whole thing?
What I’m excited about: Mortals interacting with gods never goes well, and I’m curious to see how it plays out for Soarran, Valery, and the others. I also love reluctant heroes and the potential for basic kindness to both set off an adventure and potentially put things right in the end--or at the very least make it interesting along the way!

The WIP Shout-Out Project is a challenge I created for myself to give a brief virtual high-five to one WIP every day in July. While these shout-outs aren’t super in-depth, I’m hoping they’ll still help spread a little love and encouragement to the writeblr community. If you want to follow along, I’ve tagged all related posts #wip shout-out. Feel free to give your own shout-outs, too!
sts!~ if your characters were royalty what would their epithets be? (think like Queen Susan the Gentle from Chronicles of Narnia or Queen Margo the Destroyer and King Quentin the Moderately Socially Maladjusted from The Magicians)
Answering and then reblogging to my writeblr, @irisjaye.
OOOH this is a great one.
Queen Charlie, Founder of Magic
Queen Flaura, The Proud and Clever
King Argo, Patron of the Arts
King Elyas, The Haunted
Thanks for this one!

ooh this is a lovely idea! Could I get a short prose username piece? thank you!!
Happy Giving Thanks Day!
No, thank you, @tragedyshow! And absolutely! 😊
Excuse me while I get a little dark and literary, here. Your username got right to the roots of my writing aesthetic.
Title: “The Tragedy Show”
Word Count: 473
[CW: references to suicide, death, vague social commentary on mental health, the circus]
It’s back in town. The show, I mean. You must have heard about it somewhere - we all have, at some point or another.
Harriet felt it come into town last spring. Her brother was away, off on a grand adventure of sorts, mandated and off to war. She wished he hadn’t gone, if only so he could see it with her. He’d have loved it. Especially the jugglers, tossing balls of blown glass up up up, catching their fall in gentle hands, tossing them back into the air, freezing their lungs so their breath didn’t disrupt their course, didn’t push them off center and out of reach to plummet and shatter like Harriet’s heart. He would have loved the jugglers.
sts!~ if your characters were playing an open world rpg, what kind of player would they be? Good/evil/neutral? Focus on main story, sidequests, or gathering?
i love this question! sorry i'm a day late, but we'll pretend STS is Storyteller Sunday for the sake of getting this last one out of my inbox heh
before i start (and i'm doing the main cast of Faye and Fate), i have to admit that i have no experience playing video games in general. i tried my hardest lol
Ara: 100% neutral. she's a bardic healer i'd say? she'd also be the type to follow the main quest almost religiously but spend time gathering and taking side quests in between breaks. following the plot of the books, upon dying she'd be so annoyed at losing her progress that she'd cheat (and even more so if one of her friends lost their progress, she'd feel sympathetic for them and want to help). good intentions... but not necessarily good actions
Ethin: neutral and occasionally an evil player, when it suits him. he's probably a thief, and definitely follows the main quest, with some focus on gathering, but never any focus on side quests. he'd probably earn so much money from quests that he'd be one of the richest players, because unlike a lot of people, he has common sense and wouldn't spend it on cosmetics (which Ella would do without hesitation)
Asrian: a good player, magic user class. he's definitely focused on side quests- the type of player to get distracted at the concept of helping someone (even NPCs) with any task, from saving a village to delivering a package. he'd only ever go near the main quest if one of his friends needed backup for a battle
thank you for the ask! this was fun!

Happy Storyteller Saturday!
Ooohhh, I enjoy this question indeed~ Let’s list this out according to the main cast of One Siren’s Soul, shall we?
Celestine: Definitely would have zero reservations about being the thief character type, but her refusal to kill innocents extends even to rpgs. She’d likely just be neutral and get in trouble with the law due to her stealing. Which happens a lot due to her focusing almost solely on gathering shinies. XD
Dione: Ehh, hhahhhh so. Dione wouldn’t ever play an rpg but let’s say she does for some reason---magic-user/ranged type class, does all the sidequests that help people but always goes back to the main quest line. She’d definitely end up gathering a lot too, but only what she needs for effective gameplay. Is definitely neutral, occasionally evil when she’s particularly annoyed. But it’s just a game, right?
Phoenix: Literally just does the sidequests. Like. I dunno how she’d even progress. Prolly only would so she has access to the next sidequests. XD Definitely plays a good character, despite the occasional overuse of fire and explosives. Probably a close-combat class.
Colin: Colin gets distracted with gathering all the pretty flowers and doesn’t catch what he was originally supposed to do because he wasn’t paying attention. Tries his best to do sidequests and the main story but will give up on particularly hard side quests. A generally good character from a close-combat or magic-user class.
Thanks for the ask! ^u^ This was fun!
