I haven’t updated my blog for a while now due to our freaking hectic schedule!!! I actually didn’t expect that third year med will demand SO much time from us. We’re only at the third week of the academic year and I already barely sleep.

I just want to give a quick update regarding our school’s shift in curriculum. Outcome based learning method is now being implemented and I seriously don’t know why they have to apply that learning method in our batch (or in any batch) because we are already in third year. It just complicates things. Our daily case discussions, small and big group discussions, and skills lab (aside from “uniform” lectures) are fair enough. We’ve been having those stuff since first year. I just don’t like that some subjects/courses now expect that we read and understand the book before we go to their classes and so their only role is to answer us if we have questions. When a professor mentioned that, I felt so lost.

I just miss the lectures we used to have before wherein each facilitator is being guided by the scheduled topic’s points and objectives given by their respective departments. With facilitators and lecturers being guided by certain objectives, we don’t have to worry that some of them would be teaching inadequately to us. Having standards in lectures makes me feel that I get what I pay. We have to read the book before the class start, I get it. But lectures highlight important points in each topic. And it is also during lectures that adjustments suited for Philippine setting are being mentioned especially when our books are not Philippine nor SE edition.

I am not really complaining but more of questioning. I am enjoying third year med despite schedule overload. It just frustrates me that some subjects/courses religiously stick to that outcome based learning education that they don’t know, with all other subjects/courses giving us a lot of workloads, they’re being set aside. Some student even study for other subjects during their classes. And when they announce upcoming examinations, students tend to procrastinate and just memorize (without understanding) to pass the subject.
