Artists Lyle Carbajal (Nashville/New Orleans) and Jill Ricci (NYC) take center stage at Gallery Orange during the first weekend of Jazz Festival. The exhibition titled “Primitive and Patterns” will consist of new mixed media works and will run Wednesday 22nd of April through 5th of May. Mitchell Gaudet will be Gallery Orange’s guest POP up artist for the second week of Jazz Fest with a few of his pieces will be on display during the Ricci/Carbajal show. Tracy Gielbert opened Gallery Orange during French Quarter Fest four years ago. Originally located on Pirate’s Alley, she now calls the 800 block of Royal Street home. After having spent many years working in a gallery, it was a good friend and artist who encouraged her to open her own gallery. He wanted her to represent him, and she couldn’t find the best place to do it so she knew there had to be a demand. Other relatives thought she was crazy to open a gallery in the French Quarter, but with Tracy’s carpe diem attitude she did not resist. As she says, “It is better to go to the grave having failed than to not have tried at all.”
“Gallery Orange is about fresh art and there is always something new on the walls,” says Gielbert. It is home to only original art with a mix of local and national artists that she describes as, “graphically bold but not terribly detailed.” The gallery appeals to both the introvert and the extrovert, and her prices are quite attainable.
Gielbert has a large out of state following, and her biggest fans come to town during Festival season. She rolls out the orange carpet and has cold French champagne on hand to make them feel at home in the heat of New Orleans. For those who want the Gallery Orange experience but without the traffic and crowds of the French Quarter, the gallery offers the royal treatment service for locals as well. Potential buyers or interior designers can select pieces from the walls or their online inventory, and Gielbert’s team will transfer them to the home for proper viewing. She even lets you sleep with the painting to make sure its a good fit!
