Title: The Particular Sadness of Lemon Cake
Author: Aimee Bender
This book is based around the interesting idea of feeling empathy for the maker of food. The young antagonist is Rose. From the age of 8 onwards Rose is able to taste how people feel buy eating the food they make.
The book explores the idea well but focuses on the distress that this causes Rose more than anything else. I wouldāve liked to have seen both sides of the ability explored. Instead the negative aspects of such a skill is the driving force of the story line. It gives the book a gloomy overtone.
This was an interesting read with an easy style. I finshed the book quickly as I enjoyed the authors wiritng but it felt unfinished or rushed towards the end.
Worth a read.
