I went this morning with Laika for her 8 week checkup after her TPLO surgery ... one of her screws broke. They are impressed that everything looks normal, but I am not sure when or even how this happened. We have to go back in two more weeks to follow up again. As easy as this recovery was by comparison to leg one, this was not the news I anticipated hearing. Mixed feelings in general, but happy it is not something they need to fix, though I am bracing myself for news that they’d like to remove the screw or something along those lines. : /
Boe is unofficially* free to be a dog again!!
His doc said the xrays look great and everything is healed. We can start taking longer walks now!
*it will be official and he'll be allowed off leash as soon as the radiologist gives the okay which will take about a week.
We are going on 3 weeks post-op and Boe is doing amazingly well! He's putting a good amount of weight on his leg and I have to already keep him from moving around too fast. His staples were removed this morning, so he finally gets to be cone free!
Good news for the boy!! I dropped him off at the specialist for his recheck xrays this morning and informed them of my concerns. The vet called back a few hours later and said he's actually doing really well!! Everything I've been seeing is normal for this stage of his recovery and he said the xrays look good. He does have to send them off to a radiologist to check and see if he's completely healed or not which will take about a week. If the radiologist doesn't think the bone is 100% healed he'll have to go back in a month for more xrays which is fine.
Long story short, he's doing great and we can keep exercising and working on building muscle and stamina!
I, unfortunately, have to work till 7 so I don't actually get to pick him up till later tonight.
**he also did so well in the lobby this morning and didn't react to the Cane Corso on the other side! Stared a little but then just calmly lied down.

Boe Update
So, Boe is currently at 10 weeks post TPLO. I had been a little worried because he seemed to have plateaued in terms of healing. We worked up to about 20 minute walks and he would do okay at the beginning but seemed to really drag on the way back.
Monday, I called the facility where he had the procedure done and scheduled his recheck x-rays for 6/4 which would be week 12. That night, I took him for a 10 minute walk and he was really slow on the way back and was panting hard (when it wasn't even that hot) and I heard his nails scrape the ground a little more than I usually do.
He's also been swinging his knee in when he walks and when he stops he keeps that leg kicked back a little to keep weight off of it.
So I called Tuesday and had it moved up to next Tuesday. I brought him to work today and showed one of his vets what he's doing and she also didnt like how he was swinging the knee in.
So, long story short, I'm really fucking worried that something has gone wrong with the implants and I'm really nervous for what Tuesday will bring.
On top of that, I can't give him any NSAIDs right now because he's on a bland diet and an antibiotic for his GI system because he's been having chronic bloody soft stool.
I would like to thank the creator of Kongs for existing and for, you know, creating Kongs.
