vox x male!angel!reader x alastor pt5
vox takes the lyrics "love let me sleep tonight on your couch" a little too seriously.
part four masterlist part six
For the past 5 years, Alastor’s life had been less than pleasant in his eyes. Without his recurring broadcasts, his name had slowly faded away, the fear surrounding it doing the same as well.
So seeing an angel casually walking around Hell was bound to pique some curiosity.
Especially if that angel appeared to be owned by a certain someone. He almost laughed when he heard how Vox reacted with you being hugged. It seemed like he truly never changed from the inside.
It was clear Vox had found another anchor to keep his position from falling. Except this time, he’d found someone’s wings to carry him.
Wings that could allow him to rise.
“You’re planning something, aren’t you?” Rosie asked skeptically.
The Radio Demon hummed, “How about the next time he comes along, you take a little break. I can cover for you.”
Rosie placed her hands on her hips, “I’m not going to let you go ruining that poor boy’s relationship if that’s what you’re implying.”
Alastor barked out a laugh, “Nonsense, I know that fool will manage to wreck it on his own. I simply just want to speak with the boy—perhaps he’ll bring some entertainment.”
Sighing, Rosie waved him off. “Do as you please, but when he does come—I’m going to need an update.”
“You WHAT?” yelled Vox. He jumped from his chair to face Velvette, who didn’t appear to be fazed at all.
“I told him to go out. Take his mind off you and whatever this is,” she said, motioning to Vox.
Vox scowled. “‘This’? The fuck do you mean by ‘This’??”
Velvette stepped forward, her face contorting into a glare. “I’m talking about you being a big fucking baby and going out of your way to ignore the one that’s—Mind you, the whole reason your ratings are up right now!”
Vox grimaced, “I’m not trying—”
Interrupting, Velvette pulled out her phone. “Save it. You and I both know what's going on here—what I’m saying is that you need to start acting fucking normal.” The shorter demon trudged out of Vox’s office, leaving The Media Overlord to his own thoughts.
Vox clenched his fist, feeling his screen starting to warm up. “You don’t know a fucking thing,” he growled.
To make matters worse, he heard the doors to his office open again. Ready to scream at whoever was there to get out, Vox turned his head—
You were standing there. Holding a large bouquet of flowers and smiling warmly at him. You tried to radiate confidence, but your wandering eyes said otherwise.
Your voice was sweet as usual, a trait of yours that somehow made it so, so hard to ignore.
Vox inhaled sharply before he could stop himself. “Hey..”
You took in a deep breath, “I um, I’m sorry if this is a bad time. I’ve just noticed that it’s been kinda awkward between us. Or at least on my side. I-I’m not saying it's your fault, I just wanted to know if there was anything I did to upset you.”
Vox raised a brow. He leaned against his desk, clearing his throat. “Why would I be upset at you?”
A cold chill ran down your back. “I-I, it just feels like you don’t really enjoy being around me. N-Not that you’re supposed to! But ever since the first night, it just feels like something flipped.”
Vox paused, carefully considering his options on how to respond. Thankfully, a solution came to him fairly quickly.
“I apologize if I’ve come across that way, (Name). I’m a very busy man, and a lot has been happening. I would never ignore you intentionally..”
He cast the bait, all he needed now was for you to take it.
And you ate it up without hesitation.
The tension in your shoulders vanished instantly, “Gosh, I should’ve guessed that!”
Vox had to stop himself from smirking. This seriously was too easy.
You huffed. “My, I can’t imagine how much you have to do! If there’s any way I can help, I’d love to do so.”
Grinning, Vox waved you off. “It’s perfectly alright, I’m sure Velvette will figure out some ways to keep you busy enough,” he thought back to their small ‘conversation’. “I heard about that little trip around the city she made you take, how’d that go?”
You perked up, “It was absolutely wonderful! I met so many beautiful people—especially this one lady in Cannibal Town! She actually gave me these flowers; that are for you! And then—” your voice faded into the background after that. While you rambled on and on about the sinners you met, Vox could only hear the thoughts swirling around his brain. His claws scratched deeply into the wood of his desk.
You met other sinners. Without any of his own supervision. And yeah, he had completely been ignoring you for the past several weeks, but that never meant he’d stop watching you.
It wasn’t just Velvette that had noticed his odd behavior; all of his employees knew to be careful around you too.
It became clear to them the morning of your second day. One of the employees: Marc, had been talking about you. Rather loudly, he spoke of seeing Valentino all over you. He mentioned the hug, but threw in other factors to exaggerate. He described the moth pulling you into a deep kiss, wrapping you in his wings.
“If you ask me, I think he got booted out of heaven. I mean, he’s supposed to be an angel— but the guys’ already hooking up with his boss! Fuckin’ crazy I tell you—like if you’re gonna be a slut you can atleast drop the “I’m so holy and kind” act.”
A separate employee rolled her eyes at him, “Ok and why does this make you so mad?”
Marc scoffed, “Because his whole angel roleplay somehow managed to get Val in the sheets in less than 24 hours. It just fucking pisses me off.”
“So you’re just mad that you can't get any dick.” The whole group started to laugh, working him up even more.
He flipped them all off, “Fuck off, I can get it anytime I want. In fact, after the angels’ done with me tonight—”
None of them realized Vox heard the entire conversation. It wasn’t until Marc got an email from Vox, demanding to see him in his office, that they knew something was wrong.
They waited, but Marc never came out of Vox’s office.
You didn’t know anything going on in Vox’s mind.
After talking to Vox, everything started to go back to normal.
Or rather, you stopped obsessing over how you could’ve made him upset, and focused instead on finishing all his work for the day.
During the day, you’d enjoy your time with Velvette and whatever tasks she had you do. But at night, you spent all your time clearing out work that, when combined, would’ve taken forever.
It was boring, and you found yourself dozing off regularly. However, that only motivated you to continue. Once your mind was set on something, it would finish it till the end. So you loaded up on energy drinks, chugging them down whenever you felt slightly tired, ignoring the random twitches you would get while working.
For the first two days, you acted completely fine. In fact, this had been the most energy you’d felt in a long time.
You came into the recording studio tumbling, seemingly trying to avoid objects that didn’t exist. A set member asked you a question, and you just stood there staring at him for a minute, before shaking his hand and saying, “Thank you for the TV.”
Vox should’ve been furious—there was no way you’d be able to go on television acting like this.
But internally, he was the opposite.
From the first night he knew what you were doing. He’d known the moment he’d checked his daily assignments and only saw one. He checked the future days, all having only one assignment.
Did you take him for an idiot? He’d usually have at least ten-plus tasks awaiting him everyday—now all of a sudden he only had one? Most of the time he wouldn’t even do them, his employees would.
And yet, just the thought of confronting you made him recoil.
Your presence on TV never fell flat, so there was nothing Vox could pick apart to make you stop this rampant workspree. If he were to come up to you, demanding you to stop, it’d look like he’d actually care about your wellbeing.
Something he swore he didn’t care about.
But now he finally got his reason.
Vox stormed up to you. “(Name), what the hell is going on? I can’t have you appearing on TV like this.”
You just stared at Vox, with a set of glazed eyes acting mesmerized by the man, and that stupid smile of yours. “Are you free today?”
Vox was slightly shocked at how you weren't cowering at his fuming presence. “What?”
You blinked. “Schedule. Check your schedule. You free?”
Vox gripped the sides of his screen. “Are you listening to me at all? For fucks sake, we’re on in five,” he seethed.
“Can I show you something?” you asked, completely deadpan.
Vox grumbled, he knew he wasn’t going to get through to you like this. He was prepared to punch something, but right before he did, he caught another sight of your smile.
He shot his director a stern look, “Play some of the backup footage. He can’t go on television like this.”
She nodded and yelled out some orders to the backup crew.
Vox walked out of the set, not daring to look back. You followed along behind him, and once the two of you were out of anyone’s sight, Vox grabbed your shoulder and forcefully pulled you closer to him. “You can show me whatever it is, but don’t ever think about showing up looking like this ever again. Do you fucking understand?”
Clearly in not your usual headspace, you simply grinned at him. You nodded, and then grabbed Vox’s wrist to lead him towards the roof.
When you got to the top, a small breeze hit the both of you. From the height of Vox’s tower, you could see almost the entirety of Pentagram City.
You shushed him boldly and brought him to the edge of the building. You kept a grip on his wrist while pointing out at a street. “Look.”
Vox rolled his eyes, frustrated from this whole ordeal, and from how his heart sped up at your touch.
Focusing on what you were pointing at, he saw a simple sinner walking. He was grinning for no apparent reason, just happy to be there.
“I met him yesterday,” you murmured. “Said he was a fan of your broadcasts. He reminds me of when I was alive.”
Further down the street, he noticed someone. He ran to her, and the two embraced each other lovingly.
“Just…thankfully with a better outcome.”
“I’d come up here whenever I couldn’t sleep, it's a nice view—oh, that's adorable.” You pointed at a mother and son walking out of a store. The boy held a toy in his hand, beaming while he examined it. His mom watched him with a tender expression.
“I had someone like that in my life once,” you said, voice softer than before. “He’d always check in with me every week. Shaped me into the man I am today.”
You frowned for a moment as your eyes started to sting. “So it hurt finding out he never made it to heaven.”
Vox shifted, weren’t you just delirious a few moments ago? He’d much rather have you back to that state, considering the odd feeling he got seeing you this way.
Clearing your throat, you returned to smiling. Except this time it was fainter.
You gazed out, forgetting to point this time. Vox followed your line of sight. Two men were seated together by a fountain, kissing.
You unconsciously began to fidget with Vox’s sleeve. “It’s kinda funny. For something I wanted so desperately when I was alive to be everywhere now that I’m dead.”
He hated that he knew what you meant.
“I met a lot of people yesterday. Many of the sinners here are still so worthy of experiencing life. Or whatever it’s called when you’re dead. But holy shit, I never realized how much of a gift it was to connect with them,” you said, letting go of Vox’s wrist.
The warmth vanished immediately. His fingers twitched, urging him to retain that comfort.
You continued, “To have influence over them, to lead them towards a brighter path. I can see why speaking to the public matters to you,” your hair blew in the wind, giving him a clearer view of all your features.
“Vox, you’re a truly admirable man.”
For a split second, Vox’s screen flickered. The refreshing breeze from before now felt chilling to his core. He had grown immune to praise, because he knew it always came with another string. But then you came into his life.
It was so hard when it came to you. Your naivety and faith in others should’ve been infuriating to him. He should’ve hated working with you every morning. He should’ve been excited to throw you away once your money-making limit had capped.
But fuck, even just the thought of that was upsetting.
Vox still had no clue on what to say.
And thankfully, you didn’t care.
“I’m glad I found you,” you quietly mumbled as you began to wobble back and forth.
Vox was honestly surprised you had made it longer than 72 hours without a lick of sleep. So seeing your condition right now wasn’t any surprise.
He just… didn’t know how to feel when his reflexes moved faster than they ever had before. The moment Vox caught you, his system reacted before anything else could.
The two of you disappeared in a flicker of electricity.
When Vox realized his surroundings, it was getting harder by the minute to ignore the pounding of his heart.
Especially now that he sat on his couch with your head on his lap.
Vox bit his lip. He was panicking in his head, while also trying to ignore the heat creeping up his neck. He knew that he was enjoying this, and the only way for this feeling to stop was for him to leave you alone.
But Satan, even if he tried he wouldn’t have been able to.
You stayed asleep the entire time Vox had you in his lap.
Which he shamefully tried to make last as long as possible.
He knew it was wrong. He knew this shouldn’t be him. He knew if he kept this up, it’d just get harder and harder to deny the way you made him feel. He hated it so much.
Time seemed to stay still in this moment. After several hours, he slowly started to doze off. Tired, his hands found themselves brushing through your hair. He envisioned himself on a bed, with the ability to look to his left and see your pretty face. His heart warmed, and for the first time in a while, he genuinely smiled.
That’s when he knew something was wrong.
Vox jolted up, immediately bringing his hands to his face. He wanted to scream; break something; fucking do anything.
But that’d mean he’d wake you.
So Vox remained still, frustrated to the point of tears because he could only watch you. If he went any farther there would be no coming back.
He realized once the sun started to rise that you were bound to wake up soon. You started to shift more and more, eyes twitching as well. Vox knew he had to bring you back to your room, or else he’d risk having to explain himself.
And worse, have to respond to your past conversation with him.
Vox quickly teleported to your room. Your head was still laying in his lap, except with your body now on your bed. You started to stir, and much to Vox’s horror, slightly opened your eyes.
The two of you made eye contact, and before Vox could teleport away, you weakly muttered out something that almost made Vox’s entire system crash.
vox, it's okay that you killed an employee over some gossip! because that's taking initiative-and honestly? that's showing who's boss 😁
in all seriousness, thank you all so much for the support. i cannot express how happy your interaction, especially in the comments, makes me. i appreciate all of you so so much :)
