the silence from him is insufferable. luckily, a certain overlord knows just the trick to unzip those lips.
part three masterlist part five
It had only been one day of living in Vee tower, but you had the route to Velvette’s mapped out in your head.
You smiled at those who looked at you, which oddly felt like almost everyone you passed. Brushing it off as nerves, you stepped into an elevator filled with employees mid-conversation.Â
With one look at you, they all instantly shut up.
They’re probably just uncomfortable having a stranger overhear their conversation, you thought, silently praying for the ride to end.
Like a hawk, you watched the numbers climb.Â
13…17…20…Â
What felt like an eternity finally ceased. You expected some relief with the doors opening, but the moment they did, every pair of eyes in the hallway turned toward you.
Instead of just the elevator, you now had the pleasure of walking through a whole room filled with your silent coworkers.
No amount of assurance could convince you this wasn’t about you.
Speedwalking to Velvette’s office, you double-checked everything. From your shoes to your hair, you looked fine.Â
So what about you had everyone stopping dead in their tracks?
The sight of Velvette’s doors felt like a mirage. You threw yourself into her room, immediately catching the overlord’s attention.
Velvette raised an eyebrow, “You look terrible.”Â
“Yeah, because everyone I see is acting like I’m from another planet!”
She smirked. “You kinda are.”
Stuffing your face into your hands, you groaned. “I know, I know. But nobody batted an eye at me the entire day yesterday!”
Velvette paused, before her expression lit up.Â
She threw her head back and laughed, “Oh V, you are so fucking obvious it’s pathetic.”
Confused, you tilted your head. “Are you talking about Vox or Valentino? And what do they have to do with this?”
Velvette rolled her eyes. “Vox.”
You stayed silent, allowing her to continue.
“Don’t tell me you seriously didn’t notice anything last night!? Oh babe, he’s probably having a little temper tantrum about the fact that he couldn’t have you only for himself,” she grinned.
Your stomach flipped, “No, no, no, that definitely is not the reason why. I don’t even—I don’t know what even made you think of that.”
Velvette’s expression grew snarkier by the second. “Don’t deny it. You saw how he kept his eyes on you the entire time. I knew something would come out of Val hugging you, I just didn’t expect him to be this… dramatic.”
She yawned, snapping her fingers to dress you in your usual outfit. Meanwhile, you were still stuck trying to comprehend what she’d even said.
“Maybe it’s some sort of business thing?” you offered weakly. “He probably just wants to maintain a proper image with me.”Â
Velvette stared back at you, dumbfounded.
“Are you fucking shitting me?” she snapped. “Business? Hell. You two are perfect for each other. Bunch of denying idiots!”
Despite the urge to ask further, you knew that it wouldn’t end well. Luckily, Velvette had already moved on.Â
“Forget about that twat, we need to take our dailies,” she said, lifting her phone. “My followers are going to love them.”

Just like yesterday, you showed up a little late.Â
Except today, Vox was… different.
He didn’t say a word. Not to you, not even to Velvette. One of his film directors stepped in instead, telling you to hurry up.Â
You quickly headed to the familiar desk, hoping you could make a quick conversation with Vox to ease your internal stress. You sat down, expecting him to scold you for your punctuality.Â
Vox said nothing.
He didn’t even glance your way.
He remained that way until the cameras started to roll.Â
During the interview his words felt automated. He had a smile that didn’t quite reach his eyes, and the moment the cameras shut off, he left. He acted as if you weren't even there.
The next few days continued with the same routine. You would interview with Vox, he’d leave, you’d go help out Velvette. The only words exchanged between you two were planned, and then you’d never see him for the rest of the day.
It got to a point where you’d go out of your way to try and get Vox’s attention. With Ethan, you worked out ways to help the tower: filtering out mail, cleaning up others' messes, and solving conflict between team members.Â
You noticed that Vox was a subject your coworkers avoided. When you’d bring him up, they’d shy away from the topic, and get quieter.
The impact of your presence soon became so prominent, even Vox couldn’t fully ignore it. Days of piled up tasks soon only took several hours to complete. He could sense the slight weight off his employee’s shoulders, and had seen more smiles from them in the past week than they ever had in years.
However, they knew to still keep their guard up around him. Vox would ask a question—knowing the obvious answer had something to do with you—but they’d avoid your name. “It was a team effort from us all,” they’d say.Â
Vox knew it was bullshit.
Yet, despite all of your contributions, Vox still continued to distance himself from you.
It had been three weeks of torment with Vox’s silence. You tried so desperately to get any reaction out of him, but he wouldn’t budge. The troubling feeling was becoming obsessive; now, the only free time was used to sleep so that you could still function. It got to a point that Velvette woke you up one morning and dragged you outside.Â
“Don’t even think about stepping foot in here until night. Here’s a card, go get laid or something. And tomorrow you’re coming with me to a shoot. Satan, I can’t have the only fun one around here turning into a boring bitch,” said Velvette. Before you could even say a word, she swiftly turned and left.
You huffed dramatically. You knew she was right. And honestly, you found her gesture endearing, even if it was only done for her own benefit.Â
Being out in Pentagram City didn’t scare you much. You knew Velvette wasn’t an idiot, and she probably had someone watching the cameras to make sure you didn’t get killed.Â
In all transparency, Hell really did excite you. There were endless perspectives to discover here, all in their full nature. It was intriguing.Â
However, just because you possessed empathy for the sinners of Hell, you still had your own morals, and would never go against them, no matter your location.Â
You believed that not everyone here were irredeemable monsters, and the only way to help someone improve was to show them kindness.Â
Half of the day was spent getting to know the community around you.Â
In your attempts, many flipped you off.
Or threatened you.Â
One even tried stabbing you for “looking too happy.”
But, there were moments where it made all those encounters worth it.
You met a shop’s employee, who was skeptical when you offered to help stock up the store. He figured you’d try stealing a box or two, but at least he’d get to stay off his feet, one of them being broken. So when you returned with an empty pile of broken-down cardboard, it was safe to say that he was… pleased.
A few sinners recognized you from TV, and asked for a picture. You complied without hesitation, and posed with the group.Â
Before they left, you made sure to ask them for their opinion on places to visit.
One of them spoke up, “You’d LOVE C-Town! The folks down there are sweethearts.”
Your eyes lit up with excitement, not noticing the group giving each other a look. “That sounds wonderful, thank you!”
“My pleasure, just take the trolley two blocks down and you’ll be there in no time. Bye-bye!” the group member said, waving with a smug smile.Â
Hurrying towards the trolley, you unfortunately weren't able to notice how the group burst out into laughter the moment you stepped away.

You weren't sure what town the sinner was referring to, as the driver had not announced a “C-Town” yet. However, the town you were in right now piqued your interest. Its vintage architecture, and residents that all grinned were a treat to see.
The town felt blissful.
Until you watched a man sucking another's organs out. You turned your head instantly, already sick to your stomach.Â
So maybe this isn’t the town he suggested.
“We have entered Cannibal Town folks!”
Oh.
“C-Town”.
It didn’t feel good to suspect the sinner’s suggestion to only be a joke played on you. But as you continued to see multiple bodies lying along the streets, it became apparent that it was.
The trolley stopped. You were hesitating to get off, but you knew that if you didn’t, you’d feel an uncomfortable guilt for the rest of the day, prank or not.
Thankfully the stop had a cute little emporium beside it.Â
Walking in, you spotted a dainty vase of lilac flowers that grabbed your attention. While admiring the lilacs, a woman’s voice from behind rang out.Â
“Is this your first time here dear?”Â
You turned to meet a lady dressed nicely. She smiled like the other townsfolk, but the bold hat she wore allowed her to stand out more. Despite your hesitance about the town, she had a kind voice that matched her smile, making you surprisingly at ease.
“Oh, Hello! But yes. I’m (Name), you have a magnificent shop Ma’am.”
“Thank you sweetie. Rosie, and might I say, your name sounds awfully familiar,” she wondered, tilting her head.
“Perhaps you saw me on TV! I started fairly recently, but every morning I do a segment with Vo—um, with my boss.” Your face flushed.
Rosie snapped her fingers. “Yes! Your cute little face has been the talk of the town these past weeks. I mainly get my info from customers, and from how they talk about you, you’ve caused quite a stir.” She winked, believing you’d understand the memo she was trying to convey.
However, the gesture flew right over you. “I do hope it isn’t too negative. I’m still fairly new to Hell, but I would never want to come off as an unlikeable person on television.” You said, nervously smiling.
Rosie laughed at your naivety. “I wouldn’t worry about it sweetie. But tell me, is there anything in particular you’re looking for here?”
You stood there for a moment, wracking your brain on what to say.
Rosie continued. “I’ve got just about anything; whether it's for you, a friend, or… a special someone?”
It was amusing to see you become so rigid and pale at her words.
She laughed once more. “I’ll get the tea ready, take a seat over there darling.”

Rosie emitted a warmth that coated the entire room. She listened intently, chuckling at parts, frowning at others. As time passed, the air began to soften. The chair beneath you adjusted to feel as if you were sitting on clouds. Tension fell from your shoulders as you talked.Â
When you finished, the elegant sinner set her teacup down and gently smiled. “I think he’s afraid.”
Your heart panged.Â
“Why… do you think that?” you asked, fingers twiddling with the fabric of your sleeve.
Rosie chuckled, “I’m afraid that's for you to find out my dear.”
You sat speechless, brain flooding with whatever she could mean.
The sinner demon sat up. “Would you care for my advice?”
“Please,” you said, nodding profusely.Â
She walked over to a section of the store. “Talk to him. The only way to get that man to talk to you again is by being upfront."
You lowered your gaze to your cup of tea, “You’re…You’re right. I feel like a fool for not just doing that in the first place. It’s just—Somehow, the idea of it scares me.”
Rosie smirked. “I know dear, I know.”Â
She returned, holding a bouquet of purple Hydrangeas. “Take these as well. It’s been trouble finding an owner for them—but, I think that problem has been solved.”
You bowed your head, “Thank you Mrs. Rosie,” you grabbed the flowers. “For these, and for listening. Whatever I owe you, I’d love to pay triple.”
The older woman shook her head, “Nonsense. Your presence was a gift in itself. Just, do come again whenever possible? I would love an update.”
Beaming, you nodded. “I promise. It was a pleasure meeting you Mrs. Rosie.”
She waved you off, “You too dear.”
Rosie watched until your figure disappeared down the street.
She cleared her throat, playfully speaking aloud.
“Alastor, it’s awfully rude to eavesdrop”
