I always enjoyed the dynamic between Sweeney Todd and Mrs Lovett, but I never understood why there were so many people who shipped them romantically. Even ignoring the fact that Sweeney’s entire motivation was to avenge his wife Lucy and daughter Johanna, Mrs Lovett knowingly kept the fact that his wife was still alive from Sweeney ever since she realized who he really was because she wanted him all to herself. To me she is like the devil on his shoulder encouraging his dark side especially when it was to her advantage like when she realized that she could use his murder victims as ingredients for her meat pies. Even in the song By the Sea which was her fantasy after Sweeney got his revenge, she strongly implies that she still wanted him to still be a murderer so she could profit off of it. I agree that Sweeney was consumed by his desire for revenge, but Mrs Lovett really encouraged it which is why you really shouldn’t want them to be together romantically.
