Dollar totters as U.S. politics, Fed worries weigh
The dollar was down against most of its peers on Wednesday, pressured by a cocktail of negative factors including heightened concerns over a partial U.S. government shutdown and tension between the White House and the Federal Reserve.
Fears of a U.S. and global economic slowdown have sent U.S. 10-year yields tumbling by around 25 basis points in December, adding to the increasing strain on theâŚ

How to Save Someone by battlescar8 SUMMARY- Tsukiâs (my oc) brother has died and he wasnt there to save him. Shizuoâs been hanging out with Tsuki after that. Tsuki has feeling for Shizuo and thinks of him as a big brother but Izaya is Tsukiâs actual brother but Shizuo hasnt figured that out for himself yet. But Izaya and Tsuki did lose a younger brother. But they pretend that Izaya and Tsuki arent brothers
Oh boy, here we go. Ignoring the canon-breaking-ness for now.
âŚâŚWhatâŚ..???? How- just. I canât.
Chapter 1
Tsukiâs POV
I was to late⌠How do I save a life that has already died? Ikebukuro is well known for color gangs, the dollars, suicide and killing⌠My brother committed suicide and I was to late to stop him. He jumped off the building that Iâm siting on right now. Shizuo and Celty were there with me but they couldnât save my brother either.
Uh, how do they even know you or your brother?
I donât think Ikebukuro is popular for suicide, Iâve been there. And it was full of people. Most people who commit suicide wouldnât choose a populated place out of respect (Iâd imagine in Japan at least)
âwhats with the sad look Tsuki?â
Izaya was standing on the edge of the building I was on.
Nothing is sad Izaya, leave while you still can.
Save yourself Izaya
âyou havenât herd? my brother committed suicide but I wa-
Sweetheart, spelling, please.
Izaya probably gives zero fucks tbh
Shizuo threw a vending machine towards Izaya and Izaya dodged it.
Why is Shizuo on the rooftop with a vending machine like heâd KNOW Izaya is up there???
"IZAYA!â
"Hey. Talk later Tsuki. Gotta go!â
No. Izaya, hun, donât talk to her ever again.
Izaya jumped onto the other building and ran down the stairs.
"Shizuo. Man am I glad to see youâ
Wait, what? I though you said Shizou and Celty were with you when your brother jumped off the building that you are currently situated on. Just ⌠what?
Shizuo looked over at me. I smiled and he smiled back.
"Hows it holding up?â
"It going terrible⌠Its all my fault that I couldnât save my brotherâ
Ugh, cliche much? âI couldnât save my brother! Itâs all my fault! I did this to him!â.
Angst.
"Its not your fault. Never say something is your fault. If you say that again Iâll throw a vending machine at youâ
Just do it anyways! Quick! End it now!
Shizuo only throws shit at people who piss him off and Izaya, even if Iâd love to see Tsuki crushed by a vending machine, it probably wouldnât happen anyways.
"O-Okay⌠O-Okayâ
"Goodâ
No, itâs not good.
Shizuo looked around.
And saw Celty and then together they left OC-chan!
"Lets go for a walk. Your useless siting on this buildingâ
Fuck. But in all honesty Shizuo, sheâs useless anywhere.
Shizuo has some kindness in him Jesus fuck.
I nodded.
"Well if Iâm useless on this building I might as well kill myself by jumping offâ
Yes! Please! Just do it!
Good god this fucking OC needs to stop with the angst and theyâd probably still be too traumitized to even J O K E about such a thing.
"Quit talking like that!â
God dammit Shizuo.
Shizuo picked up the vending machine that was on the roof of the building from when he threw it towards Izaya and pointed it towards me.
"Eek! Okay! Okay! Iâll stop!â
How is that supposed to change her mind? If Shizou threw the vending machine, she would fall anyways. And how did she go from being "No one understands me, might as well just kill myselfâ, to âEEK! AAH, NO! DONâT PUSH MEEEE!â.
Shizuo wouldnât threaten someone who was just talking about committing suicide with a fucking vending machine.
"Thats what I thoughtâ
Shizuo set the vending machine down and took my hand. Me and him walked down the stairs and walked out onto the sidewalk. I looked at our hands touching and I blushed. I had a slight crush on Shizuo. I have a crush on Izaya as well even though Izaya is my brother⌠but if Shizuo found that out heâd be pissed at me and me and him would be enemiesâŚ
I want to rip my eyeballs out.
I swear to god if this turns into incest Iâm gonna throw myself out a window
"Hmm? Your face is red Tsuki. Are you sick?â
"H-Huh? N-No Iâm fine!â
'F-Fine⌠How can I be fine⌠my crush is holding my hand. E-Eek! Kiss him! Kiss him now! Wait?! What?! No donât kiss him!â
You were thinking of killing yourself not even ten minutes ago! What the hell?!
I was thinking to myself but my lips were on Shizuoâs lips. I kissed him without thinking. Shizuoâs eyes widen and he blushed slightly. I pulled away from his lips.
âShizuo. Iâm s-
Shizuo kissed me without a warning then pulled away.
"I enjoyed thatâ
I did not.
Shizuo would push her away ask her what the hell and leave.
I blushed and smiled. Shizuo smiled back.
Who are you and what have you done with the real Shizuo?
"B-But⌠w-weâre friends⌠didnât t-that feel awkward?â
"Hmm. Well I guess I felt awkward but deep down it felt goodâ
Oh god, it felt awkward for me.
Deep down I want to throw this fanfic out a window. No wait, thatâs on the surface too.
I blushed. Having Shizuo here makes everything better⌠I mean⌠My brother may be gone but with Shizuo⌠He feels like my big brotherâŚ
THEN WHY DID YOU JUST SMOOCH YOUR FACE AGAINST HIS?!?
If he really felt like a big brother, that kiss would feel fucking awful.
*Heavy sigh* Onto chapter two!
Let the lord be with us all.
Chapter 2
Tsukiâs POV
A few minutes have passed and I was back home. Shizuo was out and about searching for Izaya. Little did I know Izyaya was in my room. I walked into my room and squealed like a girl.
You are a girl. But please, do go on. I didnât need my hearing anyways.
Shizuo has never looked for Izaya except for like once. Most of the time, Shizuo is too fucking busy to hunt for the asshole.
"EEK! IZAYA! WHY ARE YOU H-
I could ask the same question.
Izyaya covered my mouth.
"Keep it down. Iâm hiding from Shizuoâ
In her bedroom?
Cause Bedrooms are the perfect fucking place to hide from the man that just kissed the owner of the room.
Celty then came out from the closet. I looked over at her and she looked back at me.
What the even ⌠?
Celty wouldnât do that.
"Hi Tsukiâ
She typed that into her phone. Izaya let go over my mouth.
"Hey Celtyâ
"Is everything going okay?â
"N-NoâŚâ
I tried not to cry when I had a glimpse of my brothers death on my mind.
These chapters drag on, and they are not interesting, just full of bullshit. I kid you not, I could probably read the ending paragraph and still understand what was going on.
She just kissed Shizuo, or did that leave her mind. Cause I know if I ever kissed my crush, Iâd be over the fucking moon. But nope, this OC needs to squeeze every ounce of angst they can.
"It will be okay. Me Shizuo and Izyaya are here to help you through with thisâ
Iâm pretty sure Izaya wouldnât be the kind and understanding big brother figure.
Izaya only cares about knowing about humans cause theyâre interesting to him. Thatâs it. He would give zero fucks. He almost talked some girl into jumping off a building in the anime, but she got pissed at him and chose not to. (From what I remember, itâs been a while)
I nodded and went over to Celty and hugged her. She hugged me back. I then let out my tears. I cried and cried and cried. I couldnât let my feelings stay in me much longer. The last time I cried was when I was 3 then I stopped. But now, now Iâm crying to the point where I feel like Iâm going to be sick. Celty rubbed my back. Izaya looked around the room. I finally stopped crying and stopped hugging Celty.
Cliche is cliche~
YOU WOULD CRY OVER A LOT FROM THE AGE OF 3 TILL WHATEVER THE FUCK AGE YOU ARE NOW. But hey, angst gotta angst.
"Iâm glad I have you guys here right nowâ
"Well if you need us then give us a call. Anyways me and Celty better get going nowâ
Izaya and Celty then left. I laid on my bed wondering how I could of saved my brother. Like I said before Ikebukuro is well known for color gangs, the dollars, suicide and killing.
Literally copy-pasted.
I just wish⌠That my brother wasnât the one to commit suicide. With that being said I decided to go outside. It was a beautiful night tonight. Its always this beautiful in Ikebukuro at night. I was out here to try and find Shizuo. Shizuo ment the world to me. If he were to die⌠Iâd kill myself just like I was tpemted to do so when my brother killed himself. Me and Shizuo met each other when we were 4 Iâm the same age as him so Iâm 23. Iâve been in Ikebukuro for as long as Shizuo has been in Ikebukuro. Iâm glad that we became the best of friends and well maybe soon to be lovers. I canât believe he kissed me back. I felt flattered. But⌠It felt awkward since weâre friends and not lovers.
I just fucking canât anymore. This last bit made me cringe. Blech.
Ughhhhhhhhhhhh. Sheâs just following him around. Having an OC that literally FOLLOWS the love interest EVERYWHERE is super over used and honestly pretty dumb.
Anyway, that was chapter one and two of How to Save Someone. Hopefully the author wonât update anytime soon. This has been Totters, signing out!
Bye Bye Totters, see ya~

Thailand totters towards waste crisis
BANGKOK, Sept 2, 2014:
A blaze at a vast rubbish dump home to six million tonnes of putrefying trash and toxic effluent has kindled fears that poor planning and lax law enforcement are tipping Thailand towards a waste crisis.
Locals had long pressed for the closure of the foul-smelling Praeksa landfill site, which is wedged between a cluster of industrial estates on the fringes of Bangkok.
But a ferocious eight-day fire that cloaked the eastern suburbs of the capital in poisonous smoke earlier this year thrust Praeksa to the heart of a national debate over rubbish.
Bangkok â a sprawling city of 12 million and counting â produces around 10,000 tonnes of waste a day, a substantial portion of the 27 million tonnes generated each year across the kingdom.
The ruling junta has put waste disposal high on its to-do list, recognising that poorly regulated pits are fast filling up and prone to disaster.
But Thailand is not alone in struggling to tame its trash.
From Jakartaâs Bantar Gebang dump to Manilaâs âsmokey mountainâ, open landfills blight Southeast Asiaâs booming megacities, as urban planners labour to keep pace with rapid urbanisation and industrial growth.
Experts warn those dumps are a timebomb for the environment and the increasing number of communities forced to live cheek-by-jowl with them.
Open dumping âoffers a quick and easy solution in the short runâ, the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and Pacific says in a study, warning of severe environmental problems and long-term health issues caused by contaminated water and land.
âClose the dumpâÂ
Of Thailandâs 2,500 open rubbish pits, just a fifth are properly managed, according to the kingdomâs Pollution Control Department.
The rest are at the mercy of illegal dumping â including of hazardous waste â fires and seepage into nearby land and water systems.
The department says the mid-March blaze at Praeksa, which has caught fire several times since, was just one of 10 raging every month at dumps across the kingdom.
A lack of enforcement is to blame, says Nicha Rakpanichmanee of Ecological Alert and Recovery Thailand (Earth), explaining the whole waste disposal chain is skewed towards âanyone who can payâ.
She says that 1.9 million tonnes of toxic waste goes unaccounted for after leaving factory gates every year, with many factory owners flouting laws to save on the costs of safe disposal and tip operators willing to turn a blind eye to the illegal dumping of toxic run-off.
âThe people who will remain with the problems are the poorest who cannot move,â she says of the communities forced to live with contaminated water and land.
For residents near Praeska, in Samut Prakan province neighbouring Bangkok, the intensity of the blaze has left them in little doubt that inflammable chemicals swash around the fetid mounds of trash.
The tip is meant for household waste only.
âI want it closed,â said 85-year-old local resident Jad Pimsorn. âI have lived with it, but I donât want my children and grandchildren to live with it too.â
The dump operator denied he had allowed chemicals to be illegally stashed at his site.
âBut there were several companies operating the pit before me,â Krompol Samutsakorn said.
Trash talk
Until the Praeksa blaze, talking about trash was a conversation few wanted to have.
Currently Thai households pay less than half a dollar a month to get rid of their waste.
Local authorities say that leaves them short of cash to invest in modern, environmentally friendly incinerators or recycling plants, but they are reluctant to raise rates on would-be voters in already poor neighbourhoods.
That could be about to change, with military ruler General Prayut Chan-O-Cha vowing to tackle the kingdomâs garbage problems.
âCan people throw away garbage in outer space?â he asked in a typically enigmatic weekly television address to the nation on August 8.
âThey cannot.. they have to throw it away in Thailand.â
The comments from the can-do junta chief have raised hopes of a policy revival towards waste after years of short-term planning â abetted by short-lived governments â in the politically turbulent kingdom.
Fearing landfills are incubating massive health issues down the line, the Pollution Control Department wants to see collection rates raised locally and laws tightened to encourage recycling.
One solution is better facilities to compost organic waste â especially in places such as Thailand where nearly half of the daily 1.1kg of household waste produced per person is bio-degradable.
As they heave a wheelie-bin full of rotting food and broken beer bottles into the back of a rubbish truck, a group of Bangkok binmen say Thais must change their habits or live with the consequences.
âIt is hard to solve the problem,â said Wutthichai Namuangrak, seemingly inured to the sickly-sweet stench rising from the back of the truck.
âWe can help by collecting the trash, but people cannot just rely on us.â
