does Phineas not have a lower jaw, i feel like i should know this already!
he doesn't! at least not most of it. he still has the back portion where his molars are, but the front was amputated (after I met him but before I adopted him). here's some pics where you can see pretty clearly where the jaw stops:
he was found as a stray with a completely shattered jaw, which just kind of dangled off his face loosely. he was passed between shelters for a while before finding one with enough resources to do something about it. because it was too old and severe of an injury, they chose to amputate.
it doesn't affect him as much as you'd expect. I primarily feed him wet food because that's much easier for him to slurp up, but he can still manage crunchy food in moderation. he can still pick up toys or grab his leash if he really wants to. he's never been able to successfully bite anyone out of all the many attempts he's had, but that's a positive effect as far as I'm concerned. it also makes his howls sounds SILLY because he can't get the right resonance with a big hole in his face. when he howls it's either nearly silent and breathy or it's more guttural. ok one last fact for you: without the front piece of his jaw to connect them, the left and right halves of his jaw can move semi-independently from each other. when he's chewing on something, sometimes one half of his mouth closes much more than the other.
