What do you remember of aura
More than he should, he's certain.
More than he could ever let on. The memories with Aura in them are typically more vivid than the rest, even if scarce themselves. They feel more complete.
Aura was everything he could never be in the position he was forced into. She was his best friend and one of the only people who stared past his callous demeanor and straight into the very fabric of his soul. She stared into it, acknowledged the darkness within, and still accepted him for all he was. She believed things of him that he could not afford to believe himself - that he was worthy, that he was capable of kindness, that he was an equal, that he was... important for reasons outside of a fate he didn't ask to be assigned.
Aura kept everything and everyone close to her heart, which was limitless and wide open in a society that typically punished such behavior. She was a gentle spirit if allowed to be, but if needed she could easily rain down nature's wrath with the fury of a lightning storm. She was a master of reading the Spiral and of Windaria's native plants and creatures. She could hunt for dinner, mend a garment, catch a fish, cook everything, and tend to someone's wounds all in the same afternoon. Everyone who ever encountered her was left in a better state than she found them. Maybe in some other universe where their world survived, she could have changed Windaria for the better.
And, of course, he remembers her death. He remembers it as plainly as if it had happened just a week or two ago. For the longest time, it was the only thing he had to go off of, like a compass set to true North because that's what she was to him. The grief over such a beautiful soul was - still is - absolutely unbearable to linger on for too long.
Blue eyes narrow on the stranger, and he walks past with a clenched fist under his cloak.
There is no point in feeding Chaos today.
