At first I was like

We won our first game of the season...
and the Toomer's Trees got rolled. It's a nice sight to see, but it's still heartbreaking because they still do look sickly and I hope the workers take excellent care of them as they clean them.

Killing those trees at Auburn U? Here's what they meant to someone who grew up there.
The Toomer's oak is timeless. The businesses around it change, the bars change, I remember when The Vault was actually a bank and my dad and I would go through the drivethru in his 65 Vette, they would give me little rolls of lifesavers candy. But the Toomer's Corner Oak tree is a constant. Sure, the leaves change, the landscaping around it changes, but the tree.... it's been that way for the last 25 years that I've loved this University. I climbed it when I was 9, I sold gameday programs under it when I was 13, I burned rubber past it when I attended Auburn High, I rolled it when I was in my 20's, I watched people roll it when I got to my 30's. I think I have laughed, cried, been happy and sad, been drunk and sober under that tree. I've been a kid, single, dating, and married all while standing under that tree. But it stayed constant, steady and strong. So, we may lose it eventually, and it's sad to think that after all these years of being like a rock that now it's going to change... but I'll always remember the tree and I'll always remember what it stands for. Itâs understandable that an Alabama fan wouldnât comprehend the significance of the trees. Rolling Toomerâs Corner is a tradition, and for all its boasts, Alabama simply has no tradition. You hear that rattling noise? Itâs the Alabama fanbase getting up in arms. Theyâll tell you they have tradition out the wazoo, but the fact is they simply donât. Ask an Alabama fan about their tradition. The first thing they will say, and this is guaranteed, is, âThirteen national championships.â Thatâs not tradition. Thatâs a number. Itâs a statisticâand itâs a fraudulent statistic at that. The only people in the universe who accept 13 as a legitimate number are those who wear crimson. To the rest of the college football universe itâs a joke. When Bama fans proudly wear shirts or hats with 13 on them, they do so unaware that everyone else is laughing at them. If college football were the movie Dinner for Schmucks, Bama fans wearing 13 gear would be the unwitting schmucks.
