The night was still as Beth sat on the front steps of the house they'd cleared for one night and one night only. Back at the prison she never thought anybody would let her be on watch, always passed off as the babysitter or homemaker. But now things were different. She guessed somewhere along the line she must have proved herself to somebody. Since her escape from the hospital, the songbird hadn't had much to sing about. She was silent most of the time, tending to Noah and teaching him how to care for Judith while Rick was away on runs, but otherwise the blonde kept to herself. Not a soul had asked her what happened at that hospital, and she hadn't yet had the guts to tell her story. Everything was still so fresh in her mind, even after so many weeks of freedom.
She'd heard what happened to Maggie and Glenn, to Bob. Heard of Terminus and Carol's epic moment of heroism. But no one was talking about the big elephant in the room, the eye patch covering her former teammate's eye. There was no telling how fresh the wound was, or how deep that wound ran inside Daryl's mind. Beth was used to the Dixon silence, something she dealt with for weeks before they found that moonshine cabin, but this was different. He wasn't supposed to be this quiet with her anymore, not after all they'd been through together.
A sigh leaked from her nose as she realized she would just have to bite the bullet herself. Daryl wasn't about to speak up, leaving the responsibility to fully rest on Beth's shoulders. Just because she wasn't speaking didn't mean he couldn't come to her, and she could see just how much he wanted to in that one blue eye of his. Looking to the man helping to keep guard, the blonde shifted uncomfortably for a moment before finally speaking up.
" Don't think we're gonna be findin' another moonshine cabin any time soon, so if ya got somethin' t' say, you're gonna have to just come out n' say it. It's me, ya know? Not everythin's changed, Daryl. "
