GLAZE: Hey, watch the ‘fro!
Danny comes to the rescue of a man who had been set on fire and gets too involved with the case and his only witness. A strong episode for him, showing his good heart and (rather optimistic) faith in people. Guest starring Neil Newbon. (And wow is he very Astarion in places here.)
15.77 Knowing You
I could easily have made this Very Gay Episode a three-parter, but have all the extra Kerry pics here, instead ;p

Jack: The French are very snooty about their language. Chris: Yes. Jack: Any idea who I should take? Chris: …Rod.
16.13 Streetwise (Part Two)
SKASE: I was sure it was Gough. KLEIN: So was everyone else, thanks to you.
MEADOWS: Perhaps you should reflect on your career. Because I don’t think you’ve got one at Sun Hill.
Tom’s entire purpose in this episode is to give Rod worried looks across the office and I’m here for it.
Staring at each other again.
First ever end credits without music.
Rod lies about a witness statement and a kid dies. More of a John thing to do—Rod cocks things up through incompetence, not dodginess—but oh well. Why not make Rod totally OOC in his last two episodes? Regardless, it’s the end of the road for him at Sun Hill.
The handheld camera in this one almost gave me motion sickness and I’m not a fan of the sound and direction, either. It’s like they wanted to make it seem like a documentary, but it just ended up being unpleasant to watch, with all the peering through venetian blinds and background noise.
Back when I first reached Rod’s episodes, I wasn’t sure if he’d still be my favourite character after all this time. Certainly, he took a while to grow on me—or, more to the point, it took a while for his character to grow into more than just sexist comments. I rate favourite characters by season these days, and he never made it to first place, although he was runner-up in series 14 & 15 so I think you can still say he’s a favourite if not the favourite. I think the thing he’s lacking as a character is just that little bit more depth in all but a handful of episodes and the irony is that he gets the chance for depth in “Streetwise” only for him to exit the show. I’d have loved to see him after this episode and actually changed by it. (Although that’s a big ask given that Jack got tortured at the start of this series and it was never mentioned again.) The trouble with Rod (and it’s the same for Tom, although in a different way) is that he’s always hung up on what other people think of him but he just doesn’t understand social interactions. He’s always performing, always playing the arrogant arsehole, but it is a performance, because when the mask drops, we glimpse the real Rod—an awkward coward who’s probably only ever been praised for his looks. All shipping aside, the reason I love his friendship with Tom is that they’re two tactless, socially inept idiots who look to each other for affirmation when everyone else around them is rolling their eyes.
Anyway. Not my absolute favourite any more, but I’m still sad as hell that I’ve reached his final episode.
