So, back in the day when the only Pokemon Games in the US were Red, Blue, Yellow, and Snap... I was full on engrossed by the idea of Gold and Silver coming out. Fortunately for me (and unfortunately for my meager savings at the time), I live in the Seattle area and have easy access to a Kinokuniya book store, where I purchase amongst a variety of Manga- A Japanese Pokemon G/S guide. As I was also a first year Japanese student, I was able to stumble through the book decently enough to discover Togepi’s correct spelling (tagapi was a fan favorite of the time) and OMG, it had an evolution!!  Now, until it was announced/shown to exist in the US, I had translated the name to be “togechick.” An easy mistake (or was it?) to be made on my part since there is no “ti” sound in standard kana. Instead it was the symbol for “chi”... combined with “kku” (the ku had a little “tsu” in front thus adding emphasis to the consonant) so, all together “togechikku” or Togechick. Which... yeah. I still kinda like better.  Anywho. This little bird-brain is adorable. And it still easily one of my favorites.
