Whenever I am watching a movie and if the movie feels interesting enough, then a part of my brain starts digging up for visuals to make a poster of the movie. Over the years, I have realised that the lesser I try to search for clues the easier it is to find it, especially when it’s about deciding what to draw for a movie poster. This is not to say that every poster should follow this as a rule, some posters can be purely a visual treat while some can be intelligent. I, personally, have an affinity towards posters that capture the essence of a film in one visual. With Dunkirk, the floating tea cups and toasts in a sinking rescue boat triggered a visual enquiry about looking at Dunkirk just with the idea of being at home and having your tea with a warm and crispy toast. Who wouldn’t like that?
I managed to sneak out a couple of hours to put this poster up. On days that are not too kind towards you, working on your own tiny ideas is very liberating.
