The first home I can remember was near a river in Northcentral Pennsylvania and each summer toads would populate our large, grassy yard. As a kid, I never knew where they came from or where they were going, but I delighted in providing them shelter in a five-star shoebox with grass bedding for a day or two. I’m sure they were freaked out to be abducted, held captive, and fed grass, but to me, the interaction was magical.
