Yes goons, looks like it was yesterday, but we’re getting old... Yesterday, on March 27th of 2016, the first album released by our dear Dev completed 4 (I said F-O-U-R) years!!! Can you believe that we’re already following our little girl for all this time??
For those who do not remember, the first album of Dev, The Night The Sun Came Up (known among the fans by TNTSCU), was released officially on iTunes US and Amazon on March 27th of 2012.
It was for the album to be released on September of 2011. Due to problems with the record company, it was decided that the release of this album would have to be postponed until the beginning of the next year (in the tv program Dev MTV Special, that aired on 2012, it is possible to see a lit bit of what happened at the time).
The album, that has a electropop and dance style, is a result of a big partnership among Dev and The Cataracs and it was recorded on July of 2011 on Costa Rica with the collaboration of the record company Indie-Pop, having been launched by the commercial record company Universal Republic. This album was well received by the north-american audience, having reached the 61st position on Billboard 200 Chart, and had a big repercussion among the Brazilian fans.
Most of the music videos of this album, including its biggest singles, had already been published by Dev even before the official release of the album. From the album song’s were released music videos, in this order, to Bass Down Low, In The Dark, Lightspeed (music video in which she shows the brief passage that she had at Brazil on 2011), Dancing Shoes, In My Trunk, Take Her From You and Kiss My Lips. Besides Naked (featuring Enrique Iglesias), that was a song that entered just in the final version of the album.
The important singles were:
Bass Down Low - the first great hit of Dev, it was released on 2010 and reached the position #61 on Billboard Hot 100 Chart.
In The Dark - the major success of TNTSCU, released on 2011, it became worldwide famous when achieved the position #11 on Billboard Hot 100 Chart and achieved high positions in other no less important charts. For those who do not remember, this music was played hundreds of times on the Brazilian parties and radio stations.
Naked - the third single of the album, that wasn’t on its first version to be released on September, it’s a featuring of Dev and Enrique Iglesias. In my opinion, this song has one of the best music videos (that end on the elevator is amazing).
After picture a little bit of the trajectory of TNTSCU, which mixes well with the trajectory of our Dev (because it was her first album), it is possible to understand why this album was (and still is) a success. All the songs are amazing and it makes you want to listen endlessly. Until today, I put the whole TNTSCU to play when I want to listen to a good music or remember my teenager years (after all, four years ago I think that many of us were still in the high school) when I played this album on repeat for several times on a day.
It is very good to see that, even having passed four years, TNTSCU is still a success. Yesterday it was possible to see a commotion on twitter fans who were celebrating this date.
Today we only have to thank Dev for have given us this gift four years ago, that not only marked her life and career, but the lives of all of us.
For those who do not have (I think is very hard), this is the TNTSCU link on iTunes. And I already notice that one of the surprises that we will have for you this year involves this CD, so stay tuned!!
