The puff of smoke she exhaled was blown in my face by the small warm breeze of the afternoon. Naturally I wrinkled my nose in disgust, but this time a sharp pain struck my chest as I realized this might be the last time I ever breathe in her smoke. Scratching my eyebrow as I looked down, I finally found my voice.
“So...this is it? You’re...actually leaving.” I shifted the bag against my hip uncomfortably as she looked around lazily.
“If it’s meant to be...I won’t have trouble finding you.” Her hand reached out to me, the smell of cigarette smoke grew stronger.
I flinched away from her touch and took a step back. Flashes of my death, obstructed my view forcing me to close my eyes. I hated being a prophet.
“Yeah...look for a grave marked Sara Clement.” My voice was small as I finally saw my surroundings, and Tegan.
My mother always told me that her and I would never work out, I saw future deaths and she caused present deaths. I always wondered why I never saw the deaths she caused. Surely, we have that connection, we’re both watchers of death.
“You can’t foresee your own death just like I can’t cause my own death. We’ll see each other again.”
I flinched at the words, images of her running at me whilst yelling my name danced in my sight. The feeling of rope tied tightly around my wrists, the pain of my arms being forced behind me ached in my shoulders, and something being pressed to my left temple left me in a small daze.
She flicked the cigarette to the ground and stepped on it harshly. I looked around and saw people scurrying from place to place, they didn’t notice us, which I was thankful for.
Her fingers under my chin made me gasp, she brought her face closer to mine and her cold breath washed over my mouth as her body pressed against me. A shudder ran through me as she let her fingers trace my jawline and her other hand gripped my hip, pulling me even closer to her. My hands ached to enfold her and my lips trembled for the feel of hers. My body wanted her, but my head screamed it was a bad idea.
She pushed us back until something struck my back. I gasped and glanced down quickly. The second I turned away from her, she kissed my neck and nipped the skin lightly.
Eyes falling shut at the feeling, I moaned the slightest as her lips worked their magic on me. I pressed myself closer to her as she made her way up to my mouth, which I was anxiously waiting for.
Her thumb rubbed hard into my hip and the pressure was so uncomfortable that I found strength to push her away. Staggering back as I pressed myself more against the wall, I watched as she sighed and ran her fingers through her hair.
“So you want me to leave?”
“I’d rather you didn’t, why do you have too?”
I was breathless as everything slowed to a near standstill.
She reached into her leather bag and pulled out a piece of paper. She unfolded it and held it out to me. “Read it. Nobody wants us together and we both have duties we need to attend too.”
She dropped it and started walking off.
I walked in the opposite direction without reading the paper or watching her leave.

The woman screamed loudly while trying to reach her baby who was strapped in the car seat of the sinking car. The fear of realizing that they were both drowning made the mothers efforts seem fruitless.
A shudder brought me back to my reality, the guitar laying on the ground, the microphone stand fallen over, and Ted sitting opposite of me with understanding in his eyes.
“H-how bad was it? You said you couldn’t breathe and there was too much water. A drowning?” The poor man has seen me in too many of these episodes. I sat up, bringing my hands to my face to cover it. A groan escaped me as I rubbed my eyes slowly.
“Yeah, a mum and her baby.”
“Shit, do you know where or when?” He stood and went towards the computer.
Shaking my head as I reached for the guitar, “No, I never do. I saw another car pass her before she swerved into the river or ditch or whatever. They might help.” Fixing the stand before carefully putting aside my guitar, I stood and walked over to the kitchen and grabbed a water bottle.
Ted walked over and leaned against the doorway as he watched me gulp the water greedily. “Tegan...could’ve helped us.”
Running the back of my hand across my mouth I stared at Ted as he rubbed the back of his neck uncomfortably.
“I mean, she messaged me last week saying she was coming back to Canada soon. I was thinking that maybe we could also be there when she arrives.”
I threw the bottle into the sink and walked past Ted, roughly shoulder checking him. He grunted as he moved to let me pass. Walking past the living room, I shut the top light off and headed down the narrow hallway to my bedroom. “She has to come find me, not I her.”
As soon as I said that the front door was kicked in. Ted ran towards me as I pressed myself against the wall out of fear. Two quick gunshots and Ted fell in front of me. The scream that lodged itself in my throat made its way out just as a blow to the side of my head made night fall upon me.

“...she has no choice but to show up. The boss man said these two are lovers, she’s going to want to do anything for this slice of heaven.” A low rumble of a voice echoed into my ears as consciousness made its way through me. The cold floor pressed into my cheek as feeling came back to my lifeless limbs.
Shifting slightly, I felt the burn of rough material against my wrists. I froze, realization hitting me square in the gut.
“Hey! She’s awake! Hello darling, glad to see we didn’t kill you.” the two burly men grabbed my arms and brought me to a standing position and dragged me out the door that I didn’t see at first.
I watched the walls turn from concrete to wood as the throbbing in my head faded. A light grew bigger at the end of the very long hallway, illuminating the faces of the men that roughly held me a few inches above the ground, only so much so that the tips of my shoes dragged on the carpet.
“Where am I? Why did you attack me and my...You killed Ted…”
“Collateral damage, you were supposed to be alone, prophet. You killed him.” The deep voice chuckled before jerking me around a corner. The ropes around my wrists tightened, the pain making me squirm in my captors grip a little. A hand smacked the side of my head and one hand squeezed my arm harder.
“There’s no escaping, love. You see, we have a prophet of our own. But after the week ends no more prophets.”
“Why are you killing us off?”
“Nobody likes knowing how or when they die, but regular people are too afraid to stand up to you guys. You’re too intimidating and you carry power over us.” The other guy spoke finally, his soft voice made me feel like cotton was being stuffed into my ears. A heavy feeling weighed in me as a door appeared to the left. The soft spoken man let go of me and stopped walking with us.
The other man waved behind us and tightened his grip on me as he reached for the door handle. As soon as he opened the door, I jerked away from him breaking his grip. I stumbled back and fell on my knees as I slammed into the wall. I scrambled to my feet and ran further down the hall; hearing the footsteps right behind me, I dove into the nearest doorway and rolled a few times.
I looked around and saw a few people staring at me. A few of them actively tried to get away from me.
Glaring at them, “Help me! Help untie me! I was kidnapped-”
“We don’t meddle with prophets! Get away from us!” A sneering woman from my right hissed at me, her gold hair fell down her shoulders in a cascade of sunshine. I gaped at everyone as I heard the men rush into the room.
“You were meant to dispose of her kind quietly. How is she here?” The same woman stepped around me and growled at the men.
“Ma’am, I’m sorry but-”
“But nothing! Take this one and the other, dispose of them. Now.” She breezed past me and corralled the crowd towards the exit.
When the crowd emptied the room, I saw another person huddled on the ground meters from me. I squinted into the darkness and noticed a shining dot on their lower lip. My stomach tightened with recognition.
“Tegan!” the head snapped up and we made eye contact. She struggled to her feet and ran towards me.
“Sara!” Her face was twisted in fear, her feet pounding into the carpet slow, as if she was running in water.
I heard the click just as she screamed my name again. “Sar-”
