October hadn’t seen Leo for most of the day and since Donnie didn’t show up to the class they shared with them and Leo wasn’t answering his phone, they sent Donnie a text, asking if they were ok.

Donnie had actually sent them a text back, so they simply snuck out of class, asking where they were as they speed-walked through the halls. They had wanted to talk to Leo about where Mr. Hamoto was, since explaining Yokai and a secret city to him would probably be a lot easier than explaining it to Donnie.

As they speed-walked to the specified closet Donnie was hiding in, they remembered how they’d even met the Hamoto’s.

It had been their first day at school, their Padre, Senor Hueso, had collected a cloaking broach from who knows where and told them to go to school with Sunita.

So they had and Sunita had told them to join the swimming club because they were a mix turtle and eel and could probably out swim most of the swim team. They’d shown up and been so painfully awkward they have no idea why Leo had immediately taken them under his metaphorical wing, but they’d been grateful to have someone other than Sunita to follow around like a lost puppy.

They were third in their age group for swimming, coming behind Leo and Donnie. They’d just been hanging out with Leo ever since really, but would sometimes sit with Donnie and watch him tinker with a project.

They’d even stayed over at the Hamoto household a couple times since officially going to school in the area, so naturally they’d been turning the knowledge that they knew where their dad was over and over in their head, trying to think of a way to tell them without sounding insane, which is why they’d been so desperate to find Leo today when he texted them about coming to school, but they just couldn’t find him and it didn’t help that Chase had chased him off (oh how they wanted to throw hands with that idiot).

But regardless, they found the closet and slumped against the door and slid down it, pulling out their phone and letting Donnie know it was them over text, before asking if they were hungry. October wasn’t and they had a snack bar in their bag specifically for Donnie, they brought one everyday. They slid the snack bar under the door when Donnie sent a ‘maybe’ in response.

October sat there silently, sending Leo yet another ‘where are you?’ and still got no reply. So they started typing up an explanation of where Mr. Hamoto was to Donnie, before deleting it all and starting it again, and again, and again. They didn’t know how to explain it at all.

Then Sunita sent them a text. ‘I told April’ and October fell forward in relief. They sat back up and looked around, no teachers or other students in sight.

‘Do you want me to stay here until your siblings get you?’ They sent to Donnie.

‘Shouldn’t you be in Spanish Class?’

‘I do not need that class, I have my Padre.’

‘Please stay.’
