How are Nutcrackers different from other toy people, aside from their ability to bite through anything?
There are a few differences that differenciate Nutcracker Dolls from the other Dolls, both physical and not.
Like you mentioned, their jaw is incredibly sturdy and powerful, the hardest among all Dolls. Its shape with the lines going down the corners of the mouth is also unique to their line.
Their body shape also tend to be somewhat consistent, with wooden, blocky bodies and metal wireframe. Some of them may have metal plating for extra protection, but their base is usually the same.
-- Old art with a bit of outdated designs, but this shows an example of how Nutcracker Dolls used to look like in general.
Another physical charateristic unique to them is the lever on their back. Personally I still have to pinpoint its exact use, but it's a mechanism which once unlocked, it fully immobilizes the Nutcracker and rendering their bite even stronger. Or something like that. Like I said, I still need to finalize its usage.
Personality wise they all share a strong sense of justice, loyalty being their strongest suit. Although, this loyalty made them a little tricky to deal with for some groups (such as the Royal family).
EDIT: WELL I'M AN IDIOT I FORGOT ABOUT THE FRENZY-- I mean I've already mentioned it a bunch of times before but as a refresher, Nutcracker Dolls have a distinct trait that other Dolls don't have, which is commonly known as Frenzy. Nutcrackers who start developing a lot of emotional stress or goes a very long time without using their jaws will start to grow uneasy and jumpy, to the point of going into an uncontrollable frenzy and starting to bite and chomp anything they come across until it calms down. They can prevent this from reaching the outburst point by cracking things with their jaws from time to time, the most effective thing being nuts.
There are some other thigns that I either can't remember atm, or that I'm keeping for myself until it's the proper time to explain.

I've been noticing that a lot of people has been asking me the same things over and over through the years... I guess a FAQ post is in order at this point.
I appreciate people being interested in my story, but after being asked the same question for the 5th time... yeah I can't lie, I'm started to grow a little tired of it pffff.
Reminder that the tags I use for TLN material are:
#TLNoriginal (all posts drawn by me, mostly related to the story itself),
#TLNfanart (all the fan work I've gotten and shared),
#TLNask (all the asks about TLN that I've answered).
Some posts do need to be organized, but you can start from there.
With that said, I'll leave you all to the frequently asked questions.
Sadly I have not started the actual comic yet. The story is currently in the draft stage, and I'm trying to decide how to format the comic. Once that has been figured out, I'll start drawing it down properly.
Q: Where can I read the posted comics?
I don't have a specific tag for only the comics, but they are tagged in the general #TLNoriginal tag. You can use this link to see the posts in a chronological order (NOTE: this does not work on the mobile app. You will have to open the link on your browser instead)
Do keep in mind that a lot of what has been posted through the years, especially the early posts, are outdated and not canon anymore as I've changed elements of the story since then. So grab the old posts with a pinch of salt.
Q: Do you have voice headcanons for the characters?
- Clara's voice claim is my friend @inkabelledesigns.
- Hans used to have a voice claim but I'm looking for someone else instead. He sounds very sweet, slightly on the deep side of the spectrum, and even a hint of tiredness in his voice. Basically a comforting voice to listen to, if that makes sense. Also probably a Canadian accent considering the land he was born in is inspired by Canadian folklore.
- Drosselmeyer's voice claim is the same as the Drosselmeyer in the italian dub of "The Nutcracker Prince". It is a little too easy I know, but I really love how he sounds in there and it has been my biggest inspiration for my version of him.
- Dragomir, aka the Mouse King, doesn't have a voice claim yet, but I'm heavily considering something on the tone of how Gianni Matragnano does beastly/deep voices (my one point of reference is ZZZ's Romeul, but you can check his other roles for reference too). Although I'm still not sure if I want Dragomir to sound that deep or slightly higher in pitch.
For the rest of the cast, I didn't get the chance to think of their voices as I didn't get to elaborate their characters just yet. Aside from Valter having a german accent, but that's all.
Q: What are the age and height of Hans and Clara?
Hans is 27 and 6'5" in both Nutcracker and Human form.
Clara is 24 and 5'4".
Q: How do Hans and Clara feel about LGBT+ people?
Hans would feel completely normal and even supportive about it, as in the Doll Kingdom it's not a rarity to see someone identifying themself differently from their appearance or have different preferences than the usual. It is more common with Dolls, but there are some Humans as well.
Clara would be a little shocked and confused at first, but with Hans' presence and mindset she quickly warms up to the idea.
Q: What is the deal with Monster Hans?
The answer is a little too long for this post. You can check this ask for the detailed answer.
If you do not see your question answered here, please browse through the #TLNask tag first to see if your question has been answered in the past before you consider asking me something about TLN. Thank you.
~ List is updated as of June 10th 2026. I'll add more QAs if I find the need. ~
I started hyperfixating on nutcracker adaptations and I love your stuffβ¦ I was mostly seeing it on Pinterest so I hunted down the actual source of the images. Is there an easy way to get to the βstartβ of your posted comics? I donβt know how many years back it goes.
Oh thank you for tracking me down from Pinterest, people like to post my stuff on there despite me saying again and again that I don't want my stuff to be posted elsewhere without my consent. I just thank those who actually credit me and redirect people to my page.
As for looking up my comics, all I can do is give you a chronological link to the tag I use. Mind you, it's 8 years of posts in there, and a lot of the early stuff is not canon anymore, but I still hope you have fun browsing through the tag!
Why is Hans the last nutcracker? What happened to the other ones?
Also, what kind of attitude do the kingdom's people have towards nutcrackers? Is it just like "oh huh, haven't seen one of you in a while." Or do nutcrackers have more of a reputation?
The entire line of Nutcracker Dolls got wiped out because of an old spell that caused all the living Dolls to cease living, and for the source of their souls to be severed, not allowing any new nutcracker soul to get through. I won't go more in detail as I will have to see if I explore this part in Hans' journey, but I can go more in detail at a later time if I change idea ksdjgn
As for their reputation... well, there were a part of the population who loved them and always looked up to them, while the other part (usually those who admired the Royal family more deeply) who instead felt less positively about them because of their free will, as Nutcracker Dolls were the protectors of the people even if it meant going against the Royal Family's orders.
And when they all disappeared... let's say that the Royal family at the time painted them as traitors and eventually tainted their reputation, leading to people only remembering them for their bad traits.
So by the time Hans returns to the Kingdom, he's met with uneasiness and distrust, even fear.
(this information may change in the future depending on how I want the story to go, but this is the lore for now)
@clemclemclemmy I'm answering this in a post so I can tag this for others to use for reference kdjfn
Hans can't eat as a Nutcracker, sadly. He would just faintly feel the consistency, mainly the crunchiness, but he would not fell any taste.
I did say that yeah but it's not actually that different. I pretty much just toned down his anger bar and leaned more on the shyness and "good boy" personality.
It is still possible to make him angry, but it's very hard normally. It's basically those kind of characters that are always calm or shy and often let things slide and all, but will "snap" if you push too much or hit a very sensitive spot for them.
He can cook a little bit, but nothing too complicated. Just simple meals. He does improve and learn new tricks once his curse is broken and goes to live with Clara, thanks to her and her family teaching him.

How do you plan on writing out your nutcracker story? Will it be like a full series on youtube (I read the voice ideas ask) or would it be a fanfiction for us all to read? Or would it be a webcomic?
Like I mentioned before, at the moment the idea is to put it down in comic format.
It will probably be a very simplistic format at the start, like the comics I've done and shown before:
It won't be the final format of it, but I prefer starting with a format I'm more comfortable with in order to put down the story in detail without worrying about proper pagination, as I can just redo it later on.
I did also have thoughts of using a different media to tell the story, like a graphic novel for example, but I would have to see what and if it would work or not.
But for now yeah the aim is for the sketched comic, then we'll see.
The voice claims was a discussion mainly because early on I had folks who were interested in dubbing my comics and voicing my characters, to which I'm still completely fine with anyone doing it.
I recently ran into your version of the nutcracker and I loved it. And after spending the last days of my vacationβs watching your drawings about it.
I wondered:
Do you have an idea of the species or classes of inhabitants that live in the Doll Kingdom?
Or at least according to your version.
(PS: Itβs my first time doing this xd)
OMG I COMPLETELY FORGOT TO RESPOND TO THIS I AM SO SORRY!!
Ok to answer your question...
This is still a WIP and this information may change later on, but for now I can explain the ones that are set on stone no matter what.
So, on the largest spectrum there are mainly 3 groups of entities inhabitating the Kingdom's land: Animals, Civilization and Mystical/Magical. (I can't think of better names atm so sry if they sound weird)
---
ANIMALS
Self explanatory. Despite all the magic and all, there are still normal animals in this world. I'm not sure if they still have something different compared to our world (like bigger/smaller, different colors, able to talk, etc). I'll think about it.
---
CIVILIZATION
This includes the races/species that live in communities such as villages, tribes, etc.
Humans
One of the main races that live in communities. They're your usual humans, although a few of them are able of wielding magic by either being born with it or dedicating their life to study it.
Dolls
The other main race who live in communities. They are basically living dolls who can range from stitched cloth to mechanical metal, all usually humanoid in their shape. They are all powered by a Soul Chamber, which lasts for the same duration as an average human life.
New Dolls are born when new toys are created in Clara's world, from which souls materialize in the Doll Kingdom, and it's the job of specialized artisans to build them suitable bodies. They are also assigned to a skill/job from the moment they are born, and it's not possible for them to change it normally.
There could be other races who live in communities as well, but I haven't thought of any yet.
There is a Royal Family (who are all humans), as well as military who can be both humans and dolls (mainly Dolls though thanks to their higher sturdiness), then there are both higher and lower classes of families, but they do tend to help and respect each other. Workers of a wide variety of jobs, people who dedicate their life to magic and nature, etc.
---
MYTHICAL
The Mythical creatures are entities who are more closely connected to the land itself and are basically its living force.
From the most important figure to the closest to civilization:
Mother Fairy
The Mother Fairy, nicknamed the Sugarplum Fairy by the young folk, is the most powerful entity in the land, watching over all from her home in the Tree of Life. Very few are able to actually interact with her.
Guardians
Giant animals who are the lifeforce of the land. Each region is strictly tied to these mystical beasts, from its nature to its magic. They are wise entities who don't usually show up in front of people.
Great Fairies
They are the leaders of the various factions of fairies, guiding and instructing them in their tasks, as well as keeping an eye out on what's going on. They are also hard to come by, but are more present compared to Mother.
Fairies
The most common mythical entity, even though they tend to hide themselves from sight. There are many groups of them, recognized by their element, and their job is to replentish the land with resources and aid the cycle of nature.
All the mythical entities prefer to keep themselves out from sight in order to not influence the land's other inhabitants. They are also not able to directly harm or influence the land when it comes to conflict, preferring to remain neutral. They can still help their people, but not directly solve their problems. This includes outsiders' attacks.
There is also one last entry I want to include.
Nutcrackers
Nutcracker Dolls were the bridge between the communities and the Mythical entities. They were essencially the protectors of the Doll Kingdom, and the only ones able to directly interact with the higher mythical entities. The Mother Fairy and each Guardian had an assigned Nutcracker Doll who would protect them. They were also the main Royal military force, but they were not fully controlled by the Royal Family. In short, Nutcrackers acted on their own account, always for the good of the land's inhabitants even if it went against the Royal Family's desires.
And... That's all for now. I hope I managed to explain it all decently enough. π
What are your Nutcracker ocs, Hans and Clara feel about LGBT? Would they be supportive or neutral about it?
Hans would feel completely normal and even supportive about it, as in the Doll Kingdom it's not a rarity to see someone identifying themself differently from their appearance or have different preferences than the usual. It is more common with Dolls, but there are some Humans as well.
Clara would be a little shocked and confused at first, but with Hans' presence and mindset she quickly warms up to the idea.
