When Miorine is explaining to Suletta that Guel is the "Institute's Holder" (学園ホルダー, gakuen horudaa), the title has 特持生 written next to it as furigana.
特持生 (tokutaisei) is an abbreviation for 特別待遇学生 (tokubetsutaiguu gakusei) or 特別待遇生徒 (tokubetsutaiguu seito), which means special-treament student/pupil.
It refers to the system in Japanese schools, usually private institutions, for recognizing and rewarding high academic achievement (on entrance exams, general grades, attendance, etc.). It's meant to attract outstanding students to bolster a school's reputation and unlike general scholarship programs, it's even available to students from financially well-to-do backgrounds.
This seems like a pretty straightforward use of gikun to give an explanation of what being Asticassia's holder means in this AU.

I’ve just finished chapter 3′s translation, and I have a few things I need to say about it that won't work as in-chapter notes.
On page 2 (Orderly), Kei has the line "そんなもん放っときゃいいのに..." I think there's just too much casual, slurred speech going on here for me to be 100% sure on my translation. What I think is going on here is "そんなものを放っておかなきゃいいのに...", which is more literally something like "It would be good if you threw side that urge before you act on it". "I think it's best if you leave it alone..." has the same kind feeling behind it, so that's what I went with. However, since I'm not sure on those sentences being the same, this might still be wrong.
On page 3 (320 Yen Round Trip), Mayo says "いやあでも新品と中古の差って結構バカにできないよ?" "新品と中古の差" makes sense to me, as "the (mathematical) difference between new and old goods". The next part though, "結構バカにできないよ?" has proven to be more than I can comprehend, specifically, the "結構バカ". None of my dictionaries have an entry for this combination, but good old グーグル先生 says it's "quite stupid". Considering I know that Mayo was talking about the price difference between goods, and assuming Google is right (big assumption), the bit about the price difference being "quite ridiculous" kinda makes sense. Kei's next line kind of verifies it, but I'm not convinced it's correct.
Finally, on page 7 (Idiot Parent), the random shop worker says "お客様困ります". I understand both words in this sentence, and I get that he's somehow implying the customer is being a problem, but what trips me up is his keigo and the lack of direction in his sentence. Is he telling the customer they're being trouble: "お客様、困ります"/"Sir, you're being a hassle". Is he warning the boss? "お客様が困ります"/"This customer is being trouble". There's a handful of possible ways to take it. The polite speech and his face make it seem to me that he's imploring the dad to stop, but his speech isn't directly backing that up with how polite it is and it's lack of anything to infer from.
There were a bunch of little things that tripped me up this chapter, but for the most part I think I worked through them well enough. Now it's time to clean, then typeset, then proofread, then upload to Batoto to sit on their servers for a few days before a mod decides to approve it. I love Batoto, but onboarding as a contributor is a huge pain...

I don't know man I love when translator's use the TL notes to add their commentary because it's usually hilarious like at the end of chapter 200 of Nisekoi "Spring has come yet again. TL Note: Haru means spring." I'm sure that wasn't even meant in a sassy way but it's really funny to me. Or during chapter 197 with "TL Note: Raku's a pussy" and "TL Note: Hot damn". And of course in Railgun "Zappy Dan the Magnet Man". I mean sure you could explain cultural symbolism and word play like the Haru one above but like jokes man.

Kido's "Excuse me...ow...!" was just a really bad attempt on making a pun out of "me" and "meow" since the original Japanese, "sumanakatta... nyaa...!" was supposed to be "sumanakatta naa" (something like "excuse me") + nyaa (meow).
Also, Kido is supposed to be blushing (look closely and you'll see the faint blush) but my cleaning skills (hahaha what cleaning skills) failed and the blush just kinda became so faded i'm sorry

Shintaro's "'sup" was seriously one of the hardest lines to translate because the original was "ちーす" (chiーsu, an informal greeting) and thinking up an English equivalent is really hard... this is stupid i know
This is a post to keep track of extra explanations for various things in any K SIDE: RED novel parts I translate. They're in this separate post because they're NOT NEEDED to understand what's going on, I absolutely try to localize and convey things in an appropriately similar in English as much as possible. But, for anyone who wants to know more~
⁽¹⁾ About the use of "HOMRA" in all caps versus "Homra" with just the initial capitalized. The former is typed in roman letters exactly like that, "HOMRA", in the novel itself, and refers strictly to Bar HOMRA. Where you see "Homra", it refers to the group -- the name of which is always written using three kanji (吠舞羅) and reads over all as ho-mu-ra. The reason I'm writing "Homra" anyway and not 'Homura' is because the idea is that the members probably adapted the bar's own name to Japanese, finding kanji which would read as close as possible. So what's meant there is a kanjified version of "HOMRA", therefore in English I'm going to use "Homra".
⁽²⁾ Shougi is a traditional Japanese game very much alike chess (or, more rather, it's exactly a variant of chess). You can read more about it on Wikipedia if interested.
⁽³⁾ The 'sensee' is really just the word sensei (teacher), but spoken in Kusanagi's Osaka dialect, so I left it like that and italicized (the equivalent of the katakana the novels is using) for the same effect.
⁽⁴⁾ About the fact that Honami's being "treated like the boss's consort" here. Kamamoto and Yata are addressing her as ane-san (literally "big sister") and the narration says she "was getting the anego treatment" (older sister treatment). Now, in gangs and such, this is exactly how the members would respect and address the woman their leader was having a relationship with, though I had to adapt it to make sense in English.

⁽¹⁾ Right, so literally what Honami says here is Nanakamado. It could also be just a place name, as I didn't manage to make any particular sense of the tree kanji put together (other than the name of a tree / plant). The first kanji in it is for the number 7 though, so I just went with District Seven to express the general idea she's giving. If anyone has any better ideas or knows something more, I'm open.
⁽²⁾ This is a lot more derogatory in Japanese than it looks in English. It uses 'narisokonai', you can look at it as denoting something that wasn't good or qualified enough to become a King, or even, to be really blunt... a failed attempt at being a King. Something that tried to become that, but couldn't compare.
⁽³⁾ Exactly the same sensei in Kusanagi's dialect as earlier, he's just not dragging the last vowel here in his speech, like the first time.

⁽¹⁾ Technically, the 'mihashira' here is something like "Honorable Pillar" or so if were to translate it, but since they themselves add 'tower' after it in katakana, I figured it's more rather a name, so I left it like that. But yeah, for the sake of giving the meaning, I guess it could roughly translate into something cheesy like Honorguard Tower or so.
