When a Night Fury lives a hundred years after adulthood or rarely skips meals as an adult they become a TitanWing. An appendage that closely resembles a human corpse grows in the back of the throat with a bioluminescent lure that has a calming effect on people and dragons alike in order to trick people to stay away from their territory by making them think they are the ghosts, telling them to stay away in voices they learned to mimic. The tip of the tail gains a mouth like orifice that sucks the blood from other dragons, after a few months they are able to mimic the abilities of that dragon.

This also allows them to make themselves look like certain people.

The main signs are seeming to be trapped by the waist, dilated pupils, and the fingers being longer. No one is quite sure how or why Night Furies evolved this way but one theory is that because of the rampant hunting of their species at some point they started learning how to pretend to be something else for their flocks to survive. TitanWing Night Furies are even more intelligent than their smaller counterparts and learn information the first time it's shown, including faces. What makes this dangerous is that they can wait months or even years to strike if you've wronged them. Some have even figured out how to make the deaths look natural or caused by a different dragon. While they are unsettling in appearance and dangerous TitanWing Night Furies are not aggressive unless provoked.

The ways they are provoked is attacking others unprovoked even if they are not part of their flock, stealing eggs in their territory, and destroying their territory.

All Night Furies are extremely protective of their flock but won't attack unless you are an active threat. Some have even been seen to take in dragons that have been rejected by their original flock, including different species of dragons and people that have helped their flock. As all Night Furies have been shown to be extremely empathetic it's not a surprise that in TitanWing form this trait is even more prominent.

One example is that even though they are a nomadic species they will adjust to the needs of their flock and secure the dens for the ones from species that stay in one territory rather than travel to different dens.

So to recapitulate on what dragon age categories are, Fishlegs first describes them in “Book of Dragons.” These stages are, from youngest to oldest: egg, tiny tooth, short wing, broad wing, and then lastly the rare Titan Wing. During this stage, the Gronckle shown grows larger wings, greater teeth, and increases much in size. Other dragons appear to have the same sorts of developments happen over the age categories: they grow more spines, teeth lengthen, tails grow, and so forth.

Yes, the dragons are getting larger, and that really is a set feature on the different age categories. It is sort of like how humans work. A baby is smaller than a toddler is smaller than a child is smaller than a teenager is smaller than an adult. The transitions happen alongside other physical characteristics: men growing facial hair, the brain developing, things like that. 

Note that these categories for human ages are subject to culture and individual assessment. There is no cut-off point where suddenly a baby is no longer a baby; they transition gradually, physically and linguistically, into a toddler. And there are certainly times when people flip-flop about what is a “boy” and what is a “young man”.

Dragons are going to be the same and develop gradually - for the most part - from one stage to another. The except to that is the egg to the tiny tooth, in which case the difference is pretty obvious. The egg stage is when the baby is developing. The tiny tooth is basically the dragon’s infant stage. 

Short wings grow some of the physical characteristics of the adults. Their wings are starting to develop and grow, but they are very small and definitely not matured. They are like dragon children in some senses, I imagine, for they are growing into adult characteristics but are still small, young, and maturing.

The dragon gradually grows, getting larger wings, at which point somewhere along the continuum it no longer seems as childlike as a short wing. The dragon enters a more mature, adult-like stage as a broad wing. This assumably is the age of maturity of dragons and is how most “full grown” adult dragons appear. While the first three - egg, tiny tooth, and short wing - are phases of basic dragon development, here in the broad wing is maturity. So yes, the dragon gets larger. It’s reached its adult size, has an adult mentality, and is at mature physical strength! The face of the dragon looks pretty youthful in Book of Dragons, suggesting it is still a young dragon compared to what it may be later, but the broad wing should technically be the “default” adult dragon one sees in the sky. That’s the stage Meatlug and Hookfang and probably most of the ridden dragons of Berk should be in.
