You've mentioned that you have a genetic disorder and I'm sure you've said what it is but I don't remember. The science nerd in me really wants to know so I can read about it. It's what I do lol
lol nerd :P
I have Neurofibromatosis type 1. My particular case was the result of a random gene mutation (that is, no one in my family has it.) I’ve been very lucky and I have an extremely mild form of it (and type 1 is the most mild form of NF.) The only real symptoms that I have are the birthmarks/freckles (they’re everywhere), scoliosis (could have happened otherwise) and potentially ADD (but my dad has it so…)Â
So yeah. I always add the caveat that I’m really not impacted by it at all whenever I tell people about it because otherwise they read the descriptions and start thinking I’m going to die of a brain tumor.
The only other time that it really impacts me is that I know that the gene is dominant—thus I have a 50% chance of passing it on—and the severity of cases can vary wildly in families so just because I have a mild form doesn’t mean that I won’t have a kid who really suffers from it.Â
