ive heard about it years ago when it was introduced on tv by two people, but they were mostly making wrinkling noises and smashing crisps or something. i have the feeling that the loud, crackling sounds were what most people used to associate asmr with and disliked it for the noisiness, but there’s actually a lot more to it.
