@look-back-month-challenge day 9: "vintage"
Day 9's theme is "vintage" and that brings me over to the vintage corner! Some of them are decidedly more "antique" these days, but this is where I keep my older and more unique dolls. You know, things non-collectors would call "haunted" 🙄
Some highlights:
A large Raggedy Ann that I picked up at a local rummage sale, paired with a smaller Ann and Andy set I found at the Philly Punk Rock Flea Market. The tiny Ann is missing her dress, I don't have one that would work for her.
My Dreamie Sweets, a line I discovered after seeing the commercial in a vintage commercial compilation. I've got Happy (pink), Goody (green) and Shiney (white) Dreams and would love to find Starry (purple) and Sleepy (blue) someday.
Little Miss No Name! One of the weird and tragic poverty themed dolls of the 1960s?? I felt so bad for her, I had to bring her back to be safe.
A Kewpie I purchased from my friend Gaela - she's an 80s model and her squeaker is gone, but she's so cute. I love Kewpie lore and I'm so glad they seem to be making a bit of a resurgence.
My sister found a listing for the two Komfy Kids dolls and we collectively lost our minds. I love clowns and it's so rare to find a genuinely cute and sweet depiction, especially for kids.
The vintage girl in the green dress was bought from another friend's Etsy - I don't know much about her, but her face was so sweet.
The only baby doll in my collection, Tiny Tears was intended as a christening present to me when I was a little Elyse. It was decided that she was "too nice" and much like boomers and their wedding china, it never got used. My sister recovered her years later when my parents were getting rid of things, and I was able to save her.
The oldest doll, whom I call Dotty, was an old celluloid doll that ended up with my mother's collection. She had no recollection of her, so my guess is that my grandma got her from a neighbor that was throwing her out. Her head does not connect to her neck and she is so delicate, but I just loved her face and little wedding outfit. She's probably late 40s-early 50s? I have no information on her, but she is loved.
And finally, my My Child! A friend found several at the estate sale of a doll collector years back, and was able to get her for me for around $10. This is a truly bonkers price, but she is again, so sweet and so cute that I couldn't help but bring her home.
I got on a bit of a tangent here, but so many people see "vintage" dolls and automatically pivot to "omg they're haunted!!!" that I wanted to make sure to give them their due. 💗
