Because I own up to my mistakes rather than sweeping them under the rug and hoping no one will notice, I decided to make this post for posterity. Its about tracing. If you don’t care about my ramblings just ignore the post (and the #tinkertalk tag altogether bc thats what its for) and continue to wait in the wasteland that is my upload schedule.
So I sometimes trace when I’m in an art block to help me get out of it and to get some inspiration/improve my own skills. Its not something I do all that often, and I normally don’t even post those pieces. This one I did because I really liked it.
It was traced from a piece I found on pinterest a couple months back (I usually mass-save images to boards for inspiration). Turns out the piece belonged to someone I recently started following here on Tumblr. Whoops! They made a post about it and seemed really concerned. Lucky I was following them because I saw it almost instantly (and almost had a heart attack). I promptly messaged them to try and rectify the situation! After a short talk (and me apologizing repeatedly) they told me I was free to post this piece without credit, since its just an OC reference piece. I’m glad it was someone who was really understanding and not someone who would send their followers to lynch me! >w>;;; I do not trace for pieces that I make for others (as gifts or commissions) but regularly do if its just for myself. I know there’s some hot debates on whether tracing is actually a method of improving, but it works for me (and is how I even began on my artistic journey in the first place).
Definitely a lesson learned going forward! Even if you don’t have the source of an image, you should probably try to find it or at least mention that you don’t know the source so that maybe others can find it for you! Don’t be an absent-minded dork like me :V
Got a few sketches I forgot to post towards the end of the year so I'mma just queue those up for you nerds to look at the next couple of days. Keep an eye out. >:3c
