Horror-flavored retellings of Alice in Wonderland are a little bit of a cliche these days. You know what hasn’t been done to death? Horror-flavored retellings of The Nutcracker. I am 100% here for this.Â
Tinkerquarry bills itself as a horror-RPG with turn-based combat, meaningful player choices and some puzzle elements. That sounds like 100% my jam. Let’s scope it out.

WHY IS HE SO WEIRDLY TERRIFYINGÂ
Ahem.Â
So I run around and explore a bit and discover that I’m in a dollhouse, that I may have amnesia, that the terrifying dogman is up to no good, and that maybe there is something...sinister...happening with these toys.Â
I’ve added a plush rabbit to my party and with our powers combined we are fit to conquer the world! or at least this dollhouse.Â
Time to do battle with a RAT!Â
I happily dispatched the rat but a bit more exploring and I get a terrifying sound distortion and....this.Â
I am not okay with this also I don’t know if I can fight him yet omg
...No. No I cannot fight him yet. Note to self: Go back and level up by killing more rats before you open that door omg.Â
Well. Anyway. Ahem. This is a fun, cute little RPG with some bizarrely disconcerting creature design and great music. Jury’s out on the story, I haven’t gotten too deep into it yet, but I do like the concept a lot.Â

There are giant killer rats climbing through inky holes in reality, a Five Nights at Freddy’s reject just impaled a talking caterpillar on a pole, and a shopkeeper wants to make clothes out of my skin. 10/10 I am terrified.
Tubby - Male - Softie - Standard :: A Bear Softie that escaped from being farmed for teeth and stuffing. His family’s bodies had reformed before, but their souls will always be gone, and Tubby doesn’t want to share their fate.
Bronco - Male - Amalgam - Resilience :: A Softie/Plastic Amalgam in the shape of a horse that brandishes a pair of toy pistols. Very protective of the railroad and keeping it clean.
Nameless - Male - Amalgam - Grief :: A Plastic/Tinker Amalgam. He wears the mask of a plastic, classifying himself as an Amalgam because of it. He hides in a corner of a room hidden by a bookshelf.Â
The Sparkhound - Male - Softie/tinker Amalgam - Boss Standard :: A sewn together mixture of a formerly impaired dog toy that functioned as a joy buzzer and a collection of rat parts as an experiment. He has become very aggressive and hides behind walls.
Vikkie - Genderfluid - Amalgam - Repurpose :: Formerly a tinker, Vikkie’s head was all that remained until they began collecting limbs from other impaired toys. They have a small collection area hidden behind the walls. It’s unsure if their eyes are from their original body or from another toy.

Feel free to ask about these guys in my askbox or something i’m up to cry.
I just recently finished playing @hallowraith‘s game, Tinkerquarry, which I was commissioned many years ago to write music for. After listening to my piece in the ending credits I thought, you know, I’ve come a long way since the composer I used to be three years ago, I could do better than this.Â
It’s been a bit difficult to compose lately due to a sudden onset of chronic illness in August and trying to finish my senior research project this year, but slowly I’ve been gathering my bearings again. I figured a quick exercise like lightly remastering a piece could help me get back into the swing of things. I chose this piece because it’s quite special to me as its one of the very first pieces I wrote, so I hope you guys enjoy it too.
