Fix A Frigidaire Stack Washer
Frigidaire washers are an extremely popular line of residential washing machines. Washers are an integral part of people's day-to-day lives. Though widely used, washers occasionally break or become inoperable due to relatively minor problems. Using a professional repairman to service your washer can be extremely expensive, even though most of the problems can be easily fixed, if you know where to look. Learn troubleshoot and fix a Frigidaire washer.
1. Check to make sure the washer is plugged in and that the outlet is generating an electrical current by plugging another object into the outlet.
2. Unscrew the washer's water inlet valves from the water source and check to make sure the inlet valves are not clogged. Shine the flashlight inside the water inlet valves, and use the wire scrub brush to remove debris from the valve.
3. Remove the metal plate covering the instrument cabinet on the back of the Frigidaire washer. Use the Phillips-head screwdriver to remove the screws holding the panel in place.
4. Locate the washer's direct drive pump in the lower right of the instrument cabinet. Remove the cover of the pump using the Phillips-head screwdriver and inspect the pump for blockage. Remove any debris you find.
5. Unscrew the rubber hoses connected to the pump by hand. Inspect the hoses for debris and scrub the inside of the hoses with the wire scrub brush.
6. Inspect the air tube running to the washer's pressure switch for defects or cracks. Replace the tubes if they are broken. The tubes can be unscrewed by hand and are easy to remove.
7. Touch the ends of the multimeter to the resistors on the washer's timer control and check to see if the timer control is producing a current. If not, unwind the power wire (the red wire) attached to the timer control and replace it with a new wire.
8. Remove the cap on the washer's agitator. Use a flathead screwdriver to pry the cap off if it is stuck. Unbolt the agitation using the socket wrench and inspect for damage.
Always consult your washer's user manual before removing parts or working with the washer. You can order replacement parts for the Frigidaire washer from a hardware store, an appliance parts supplier, or directly from the company.
Be sure to unplug the washer and turn off the water source prior to working on the washer.
