This cassette changed my life. I have listened to Illmatic by @nas at least once a week for the past 28 years. It’s how I got my name s/o to my cousin B . It changed the way I thought about Hip-Hop and lyricism. I have purchased it in various formats 13 times but it started with the cassette. I played it until the words on the tape faded to Bolivian with Iron Mike. I even put it in a box that ate tapes and ate it it did, right as NaS shouted out Lake Luciano on One Love. I was at Sound of Broad the next day. I bought another Tape and a CD (as backup ) 🤣🤣🤣 I know every single word (even the adlibs and background chatter) It’s the album I judge all other albums against. I have read the articles, the books s/o @michaelericdyson #borntousemics, seen the videos, the films #timeisillmatfic. I even redid the cover for my birthday playlist/mixtape s/o Brian 'Briz' Cherry and DJ Rick Geez The first official episode of The Tissue In The Tape Podcast me and Sivad dropped was centered solely around the 20th anniversary of Illmatic and episode was entitled . . You guested it, The Genesis. I played Illmatic for my wife Jasmine Wilson on our 1st and 18 years later we listened to it today on the way to work. I played “The World is Yours” for my daughter in the womb and sung the hook to her at bedtime in favor of a lullaby. But for all that I always comeback to these same 10 tracks. This mere 39 minutes and 39 seconds for 2 and half decades Illmatic has been my de facto soundtrack and for that I can’t so anything thank everyone involved with the album especially @nas @quietazmoney @xplargepro @djpremier @realpeterock @qtiptheabstract @dj_les @emceeserch and @faithnewman19 for creating the GOAT of all Hip-Hip albums 🙌🏿 - Official Heat Holder @phillmatic365 #25yearsofillmatic _________________🔥🎙🎙🎙🎙🎙🔥________________ #TissueInTheTapePodcast #HipHop #EverythingisHipHop #HipHop365 #RespectHeatHolderz 🔥 (at The Candy Factory) https://www.instagram.com/p/CcjGuFErMjY/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
