I feel like time-blindness and forgetfulness can play a big role in my frustration with myself in relation to howĀ āproductiveā Iāve been during the day.Ā I think, for people with ADHD, executive dysfunction primes us for judging ourselves and our ability to get things done, but these other traits can really add to our tendency to be a bit too harsh with ourselves. So, sometimes, when Iām being particularly hard on myself because itās 3pm and I stillĀ havenāt up loaded that fanfic update that I finished three days ago, I like to take a moment to remind myself of the things I have actually gotten done.
Sitting down and taking stock is a really good way to remind yourself where that time has gone.Ā So that upload was the only thing that I had planned for today and itās now late in the day and I still havenāt done it. Thatās annoying. Where did the time go? What have I been doing? I get annoyed with myself thinking about it. But when I take a moment to actually look at my day Iām reminded that I cleaned the floors, emptied gone off food out of the fridge, threw that bottle thatās been sitting on the draining board for days into the glass bin, made and ate breakfast and lunch, cleaned the plates/bowls etc. and clipped my nails!
Time-blindness and forgetfulness tend to leave me confused as to what Iāve actually been doing and I get frustrated that I didnāt actually even look at my one thing that I had planned until mid afternoon, even though I have a good reason.
An important thing for this to work though is to remind yourself of even the littlest task. It doesnāt matter if it doesnāt even register as aĀ ātaskā for other people. Itās an explanation of where your time went and a reminder that you have actually done things today.
TL;DR:Ā Time-blindness and forgetfulness can trick us into thinking that weāve gotten less done in a day than we actually have. Itās really easy to loose track of where the time went and it can be really frustrating and disheartening. I find it really helpful to actually take a moment to remind myself of even the smallest tasks that Iāve done to explain to myself where the time has gone.
